2nd hand game means no multiplayer

We PC users have been shafted in this way since the inception of CD keys. Bout time you bloody consolites got the same treatment! :p

ME2 already has extras for people who bought the game new doesn't it? I'm all for that but I think that disabling a game mode is taking this just too far.

Perhaps car manufacturers should start removing parts of vehicles if they are sold on second hand too?

True, there's little or no second hand market on PC, I've still got all my PC games in a huge pile.

And??

Are you so retarded that you cannot see the point or do you require a picture drawing for you?

Console games usually retail at £35 to £45 depending where you get it from, that's a lot.

That's why the used market, in shops like game or places like ebay, do so well, because not everyone can afford to pay full prices for games.

PC games are significantly less than the console versions, sometimes half the price so the steam activation/online code system a lot of them use is not a big deal because games are cheaper in the first place and about the price of the console versions when bought used!!

Keeping up?

PC games are about half the price of console games.

No they arn't. I have both. New releases are £5-10 cheaper but they have no re-sale value. The £40 price tag only lasts a couple of weeks and, like most things in life, can be found much cheaper elsewhere. A 3 month old console game is old news and can be bought for 40%-60% of its original price. There is the odd exception such as modern warefare 2.

It's really easy to buy a ps3 game and sell it for 90%-110% of the price you paid once you have finished it. I've done it enough times.

Some companies see the second hand market as bad as piracy because the developers receive no profile. To be honest, I don’t blame them.

They are just being greedy tbh.

If they sell 100 of product Z they get the profit from that. So wheres the problem?

BUT now they also want to retain *ownership* (after selling it haha) and benefit financially from any further transactions of that product.

So basically its a leasing agreement we have - we do not buy the product... If that is the case then that has implications for consumer rights on products :)

Sony have no right to retain a financial hold over a product that they are SELLING to a consumer. Over something that they do not own. When they sell the product they are donig that. Obviously they retain IP rights to the product but the consumer should be able do as they like with the product .(apart from reverse engineering etc)

A lease however.... is an entirely different ballgame.

afaik ive not seen this tested in a court of law but that day will come..... i mean you buy a couch from a store and then you want to sell it to someone else much later and suddenly the store owner shows up and says no m8 you cant do that i *still* own the couch even though you bought it from me....

Its all ballcrap...wouldnt surprise me to hear of a court case (in US prolly) about this sorta thing soon.

I was about to edit my post as it probably seemed a bit harsh, but really?

If you can't afford something you can't have it, simple. All it'll mean is that those on a limited budget would buy less games.

Calm down:)

Spot on, providing owners of a "new" copy of the game with bonuses (eg, maps and other DLC similar to what Mass Effect 2 did) should be the way forward. To simply kill off the second hand market would be a sad day for console gaming, although maybe I'm just being nostalgic? Mind you, I imagine soon you'll have to be "connected" in order to play single player games, similar to the DRM present in some PC games.

Sorry man, I need my coffee!! :D

Its not about being able to afford it, I myself can afford them quite easily but still buy 99% of my games used from ebay.

A lot of kids I know save their pocket money buy games and that some times require a lot of saving.

np:)

I know what you're saying, but it just means people will have to wait a bit longer before they get their games. Prices for most games halve within a month.

I do think we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves though, the second hand market will be around for a while yet.
