Hi, are 2nd hand graphics cards safe to use? I've always been told to stay away from them but I've seen so many people on here recommending 2nd hand that I thought I'd ask the question.

Also, anyone know any good 2nd hand markets to go to?

Thanks

Yes, but it depends on the make, model and what it's been used for.

Providing you buy from someone you feel you can trust and if the card has any remaining warranty and the seller is willing to assist with an RMA if ever needed then I see no problem in buying 2nd hand at all.

Its most likely been overclocked heavily so your taking a big risk & unless you know/trust the person selling avoid used just buy a new card with a warranty.

I'd only really get a second hand card if it was very cheap or it was an EVGA card.

These and to add, EVGA carry the warranty over to the new owner, so that gives some peace of mind.

It is called a guest warranty - Read here

My card in sig was bought second hand, one of many ive purchased this way. Second 780 probably will be as well. I buy on here as the sellers are always ready to help with any warranty issues, same for me with cards ive sold.

Where do I go on these forums to buy 2nd? I've looked and can't find any sort of 'market' forum...

Bought my two 670s second-hand and (touch wood) never had an issue.
Admittedly it's a risk but I guess the price difference will determine if it's worth it or not.

I got some decent deals and saved almost 40% vs. buying new, so that made it worth it to me. If I got unlucky I'd probably be saying different, but that's the risk.

If a card is DOA you'd likely be covered by the auction site or PayPal if that's how you'd bought it, but it might be some hassle though.

I have a second hand MSI 290, i was a bit dubious about buying second hand but i was quite lucky to find a 290 that had not been mined and still had it's warranty (20 months). I would advise against a second hand card if you can help it but if you find the right one at the right price owned by the right person, snatch it up. Just be careful and don't jump on the first "bargain" you see...
