I have just put together my new ivy bridge system with an asus p8z77-v deluxe motherboard.

Trouble is, when I was installing windows I could see both of my hard drives fine in the process, but now that windows is installed when I click on the windows desktop icon "computer" it only lists one drive (the one that windows is on).

Even if I look in device manager the other drive is listed and also if I click on disk managment the disk is visable in there too, its just not listed next to my main windows drive when I click on the my computer icon on the desktop and its my backup drive and has all my files etc on it I need and I cant find a way to access it :(

Can someone please help me with this ? Thank you :)

I know you said you see it in Disk Management but have you enabled it?

Hi mate, what you mean "enabled it" ? I dont follow ?

Its always there any time I install windows sitting next to the other drive (the windows drive) when I click on my computer from windows desktop, but for some reason with this new build its not showing but is showing everywhere else.

I guess it is enabled, not too sure, can you elaborate a bit on that mate as this is the very first time I have came across this problem ?

Thanks man :)

A second drive can show in the BIOS and on Disk Management but it has to be partitioned for it to work.
Look at Disk Management again and your C:\ drive should be all nicely coloured but your second drive might be greyed out.
I think you right click on it and partition it (going from memory).

this is how they show in disk management, its two seperate sata drives (drive c is the windows drive) >>>

You need to assign it a drive letter.

Right click it "change drive letter and paths" and pick a letter for it.

excellent mate, sorted :), that fixed it, thanks very much :)

That was strange, first thats ever happened until now and ive reinstalled windows like 100 times etc, lol, ohh well, I have learned a little more today again.

Thanks :) ;)

While I'm on the subject of drives, how do I safely partition the main C: windows drive, its a 1TB drive, too big, I want to split it maybe into two, one section for windows and a bunch of windows dependant programs and the other part to save other things on, I'm sure you know what I mean, eh ?

I have done this before but cant remember if it has to be done during the windows install or it can be easily and safely done like from disk management or something like that or maybe even a program that I can get.

Thanks again.

I dont think it can be done within windows with disk management [as its the system drive]. Some third party software can usually do it. Can't think of any off the top of my head sorry!
