I have a need to connect a second monitor to a PC, however the PC is in an office/production area downstairs and I want the second monitor upstairs on the wall.

What is the easiest way of doing this, it needs to be seamless and 100% realtime as its for monitoring machinery connected to this PC. No control over the PC is needed from this second location, just viewing the screen.

Suggestions?

I'd Guess buy an extra long cable for whatever monitor you have - dvi/hdmi etc. I'd say drill some holes for the cable to fit through going upstairs for it to reach the monitor. And have (on windows under screen resolution) duplicate these displays selected: will look exactly the same on both screens.

What distance would the cable run need to be?
What inputs on the monitor and outputs on the PC?

I cant drill holes, its an office and its leased (over a long term).

We have cat5e ports every few metres in every room, so that might be an option if possible?

We dont have a monitor yet so no constraint there, and the PC would probably need either a splitter or second GFX card, its currently got a VGA out and possibly a DVI but i cant be sure on the DVI as im at home and its at work!

Google DVI over Cat5 :)

just make sure you arent using VGA as it is an analog signal and will lose quality over distance causing flickering (eye strain)

i have this problem in work..
