2nd Noob question of the day, DDR Pairing

I have a 2 x 512mb Gskill 4400 pair in my DFI NF4 right now.

With RAM being crazy cheap now I'm thinking of putting in another gig or two. Probably 2 5300s.

Will I lose the dual channel 'bonus' if I don't put in another 2 of the same chips? Will I lose it just for having more than 2 chips? Can I still get it if the other pair match, but the pairs themselves don't match? Can I freely mix the chip sizes?

Am I overthinking it?

Many thanks,

As in PC5300? Because PC5300 is DDR2 and therefore won't fit in your DFI NF4 board.

Ah, so I suppose 4200 is my next best bet then...

Will I be at much of a disadvantage with non-DD2 in the future?

(I'm considering if its worth-while upgrading my 939.)

thanks,

Only if it's DDR1. You'll likely find it pretty hard to buy new DDR1 above maybe PC3500 speeds these days. Auction may be your best bet if you're looking to find some DDR1 that won't cripple your current DDR1 G.Skill PC4400.

Hrmm...

There is actually a 2x 512 Gskill 4400 kit just like mine on Ebay (the only 4400 on there) but its £60!

Not such a nice deal!

(Except in terms of what I paid for them in the first place!)
