2nd NVMe drive?

Hi all
There are a fair few mini-ITX mobo's out there with a 2nd NVMe slot on the back of the mobo. Has anyone used one of these slots? I'm asking as I'm thinking of the Samsung 990 pro, but I'm not sure if it will fit with the heatsink or if I can only use a drive with no heatsink? The heatsink on the 990 pro is pretty slim, but it's a lot of money to spend without knowing, so has anyone done this and used a 2nd drive on the back of the mobo?

Probably be better if we knew a specific motherboard
And how much clearance the case has
Behind the motherboard

But
It's not a tall heatsink
Believe it fits in a ps5 with no issues
So only gut feeling but can't see why it wouldn't fit

Drive temperature I might worry about more
Not usually much airflow behind a motherboard

There was a peak period for multi-GPU but the results before and after that weren't great. Mid-generation DX9 games usually worked great as they were just advanced enough for the technology to work well but mostly not so advanced they leaned heavily on graphic effects which broke compatibility with multi GPU.

I never had much problem with microstutter personally though I did do a fair bit of tuning with various tools like nvinspector and whatever the name of the one which came before that which I forget now.

I remember having a case with 2 ridiculous 380mm fans so as to tame the heat side though hah (Xclio A380). https://www.techpowerup.com/review/apluscase-twinengine/5.html

That is a concern for me as well, but it must be doable or they wouldn't offer the option. I was hoping gen4 was cool enough to do this.
Don't know which mobo yet, plan on deciding once zen 5 is released, but I'd guess that clearance at the back will be the same for any mobo.
Case will probably be Dan A4 H2O, the backplate has a cutout, but I have no idea if that would line up with the NVMe slot on the back.

I've used the nvme slot on the rear of an itx mobo before. Would not recommend for constant SSD use. The ssd will get up to 65c and throttle during heavy I/o operation. Mine at the time was the WD black sn750 pcie3. No heatsink. A thin heatsink may help but Ive never tested it

yeah, all i ever used it for was media storage so no biggies, just the occasional write and leisurely reads when watching stuff
no issues with temps for light usage. heavy use however, would definitely not recommend

I use a ROG Strix B-760 and use a Kingston Fury (with factory heatsink) on the back/underneath slot, this works fine because my there is adequate room between the motherboard and the side panel of my Streacom DA2 case.

The case also makes it very convenient, pop-off the side panel and access the M2 slot.

HWINFO reporting the drive has reached a maximum of 38'c

Interesting not seen one of those yet
Though never actually needed to look for one
Since i have 5 x m2 without needing one
Seen plenty pcie to m2 riser cables
Which would also work
If the board has second pcie slot at x4 or higher
