I've just set up a media server and want to add a 2tb drive . I was going to get a WD Green but have been reading about LLC problems when they are installed in servers .

Is this actually a problem ?

Is it just an issue with WD drives ?

The Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II is on offer this week @ £57... better ?

The Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s is £70 might be a better bet as when time an money allow I'll probably build another server as this one is an based on an old Dell , faster transfers would be nice ;)

there is no difference between sata2 and sata3 for mechanical drives becuase they cant even hit sata2 speeds so a sata3 port is just marketing

Never had a problem with WD drives myself but there seems to be a lot of people seem to be having problems with them and not just with the first one but with the replacement too .

Three year warranty on the Samsung too .... looks worth a try:)

Thanks for the reply :)

For what it's worth I swapped from 1TB WD Greens (2 out of 9 I had failed very quickly) to 8x 2TB F4 EcoGreens and I've not had a single problem with them so far.

I have two WD drives
one 500GB Green drive that's has been my os drive for the last 2-3 years and just bought a 640 GB blue drive and i have never had any problems at all, just hoping it stays that way :)

Got both Samsung F4 2TB and WD Caviar Green 2TB (EARS model). Both still running strong after a about 6 months.

Check out the today only page too...
