I'm close to finalising my new system. I'm getting a 120G vertex 3 as a system drive but I'm in a quandary as to what to get for main storage/everything else drive. Is it worth going for one as large as 2tb, and if so, which one?) or will the performance suffer? Are the speeds of the larger drives capable of keeping up with a fast system? Should I Perhaps go for a 1tb (sata III 6gb) for better performance and get a 2tb for an external backup at a later date?

2TB samsung or WD are fine as storage drives

Depends on what the op means by storage, if it is the traditional definition and it's just going to be full of MP3 and DIVx files then those drives would be fine. These days the SSD crowd seem to be calling anything other than the boot drive a storage drive even though in a lot of cases it includes speed sensetive stuff like their Steam folder and other programme install files.

So in short if it is just for media files and documents etc get one of the above 2TB drives if it is going to contain program files and you want those programs to loads as fast as possible consider a smaller faster performing drive.

Well, ok, what would you recommend as a large internal drive then?

Internal/External it makes no difference, not sure why the poster above classes storage drives as external.

The key factor is what will be on it, like I said if it's just media files and documents I'd go with one of the eco drives either from Western Digital or Samsung as the performance will be more than good enough for your requirments and they are cheap. However if these drives will be the location for any program files or your steam folder and you want maximum speed when loading applications I'd look to sometheing like the Western Digital Caviar Black range or possibly two raided.

Hmm, I plan to put the most commonly used and largest programs such as WOW and photoshop onto my 120G SSD. It'll mostly be movie files on the large drive but quite a few programs as well but mostly lesser used or older games. Guess I've answered my own question then :).

Sounds that way, I'd go for a cheap eco job and see how you get on, if you start having to put significant amounts of programme data on there you can always add a medium size Caviar Black for that data and keep the eco drive for you movies and music.
