Hey guys, have an adaptec 2420SA raid controller building a 2.1 TB RAID 5 array from 4 750 gb Seagate drives. It seems to be taking a hell of a long time to build the array, initially it took about 10 hours to get up to 10% building/verifying which is crazy. I deleted that, changed the drivers and re-created the logical drive, its been going for an hour and a half now and its up to 6%, seems faster, but still really sluggish. Anyone got any ideas/suggestions or sage advice? Much appreciated guys! Cheers!

Another point is that after building the array in the bios it says that it is immediately available, only performance will be affected in windows, however, the array is not available for use at all while in build/verify mode! Hmph!

Hmm, now it has frozen at 6% for the last 4 hours. Rebooted the computer, left it another 10 mins and its now up to 7% Really don't know what's up here! Should I leave the computer sitting at the controller's bios to plug away with the build/verify operation, or leave it logged into windows?

Cheers!

Same card, I built a 1tb array (3 discs) and it took a good few hours. 7 hours maybe? So you are looking at 14 minimum, probably more as you have 4 discs.

I just left it over night. Stop rebooting it!
