Hi,

I am wondering if having 2 m2 drives affects anything?

I am getting asus rog strix z490-f gaming mobo and at the moment i have selected 2x 1Tb Samsung 970 Evo plus and i was wondering if there is a downside to this apart from cost of course.

I have tried looking around but can't really find a clear answer for my user case so thought it would be best to ask here!

Thanks in advance.

The only possible downside is one of the M.2 slots stealing PCIe lanes that you need elsewhere. This typically results in something like some of the SATA ports or one of the lesser PCIe slots not being available.

No idea whether that's the case with that board, or if it'd matter to you anyway. The manual will have the necessary information.

Just found this on the motherboards spec on the asus website:
*When M.2_1 is operating in SATA device, SATA6G_2 will be disabled.
** M.2_2 shares bandwidth with SATA6G_56. When M.2_2 is populated SATA6G_56 will be disabled.

So i am right in thinking it wont steal any PCIe lanes?

Yes it will only disable ports 5 and 6 .
