Okay, so having finally figured out a workaround for my boot/memory issues on my B550 based system, I went to install the virgin drives in my new system and install windows and apparently I have offended god or something. I got a WD Blue 500gb PCIE 3.0 m.2 to use a boot drive, and a 1TB Sabrent Rocket 4.0 drive to use as a game library.

For some dumbass reason, the 3.0 slot won't detect the 3.0 drive. But the 3.0 drive is fine, since it's properly detected and accessible to the Windows USB installer if I put it in the 4.0 slot, and the 3.0 slot is also fine since if I put the 4.0 drive into it it's also detected fine and accessible.

The motherboard was already flashed to the most recently available BIOS during my previous bout of troubleshooting. Any ideas?

Check that your motherboard second slot supports M.2 in SATA mode. WD Blue is a SATA drive not NVMe.
Edit: B550 Tomahawk doesn't support SATA in second slot

They actually do have an NVME version of the drive, but apparently I'm a ******* moron and clicked on the wrong option when I was buying it. Ugh.
