Hi All...at the early phases of a new build....

Looking at a 5090 build put together a basket *I've amended some prices to what I can get them for*

Used for gaming / editing in adobe premier etc attached to 3 monitors

after some feedback / thoughts on all this -

1000W MSI Gold psu good enough?

the case I haven't found yet im limited to 210mm width so a bit annoying but I can make it wider if there is nothing suitable!

5090 is overkill I know but id rather have an overkill gpu for the next 5 years than a "normal" one

My basket at OcUK:

Roughly 3 - 3.5 total price give or take etc

thankfull for all advice received!!

Antec CX700 or C3? Would be very tight though if that's literally 210mm. Have not checked compatibility with the AIO either.

@evertonhero so the replacement 2600x stayed stable after all this time?

Your last build was an epic adventure i hope that this 'epic build' will prove to be a lot smoother - especially the CPU.

And, yes, it really is overkill - especially at 1440p. Personally, i would swap it out for a 5080 and put the £900 saved towards your boiler repair and car that will inevitably decide break down during the build :D (you really had a tough couple of weeks during the end of your last build)

Or, pseudo bad luck aside, you would then sell the 5080 in ~3 years time (if needed) and use the £900 you've saved now to go towards a new GPU upgrade - a win win. As you know an easy update and you would have probably already covered the future upgrade cost with the money saved getting the 5080. Food for thought...

Best of luck with this one - i rarely have time to write on the forums anymore - but will keep tabs on this one.

Hey Plec!! Been an eventful few years since! New boiler new car house extension sorted...finally got abit of cash saved to get a decent machine!

I was reading thru that post yesterday & I still have PTSD from the experience but yep it has lasted well and strong thanks again for all the help!

Showing its age lately especially during premier pro / editing but its still a decent machine for general use.

I think I need to listen to my head and not my heart and go for the 5080 I know it will be a beast especially from the 2080....

Still peicing it together at the moment taking my time....

Thanks - I can always cut the leg of my table (its not a supporting leg don't worry!) and allow for a wider case!
I think part of the problem is that modern cases have room on the back of the motherboard for cable management (M-ATX cases can even be wider :o ), so they tend to need more room than older tower cases.

The C3/CX700 are narrow fishbowl style.

Figure a couple photos will help!

Yes ignorethe cable management its a work in progress....my 3rd monitor died recently so i ripped everything out and not quite put back together....

Its a snug 210 width but the depth is decent enough at 520ish

But worst case if its better ill just chop that leg off to get a wider 1 in...

Been watching some videos aswell...not going to lie that 5090 is still singing its siren song to me

Both look good thanks

Im putting together a couple of basket options to see what my plan is.

Pretty much just a 5080/90 build im looking to put together...

If theres any solid builds around feel free to let me know your suggestions!

If you go for the koolink cases I would get a standard aio which has a rad thickness of 27mm the as the arctic has a rad thickness of 38mm so can be problematic if fitting in the top of the case.

ok - I can get the below basket for 5090 £3120 from OC & some other sites

or swap the Gigabyte 5090(£1911) for a Gigabyte 5080(£1070) and the cost will be £2278 & possible reduce the PSU to a 1000W maybe save £50

thinking about Plecs advice aswell spend less now on gpu and upgrade in the future with the money "saved" would a 5080super or 6080 be as good as a 5090 and worth the wait?!

AIO cooler might change due to Mickys comment about 27/38mm fans need to figure that out

I do have 2 monitors currently game at 1440p but i will probably be getting a 3rd monitor that's 4K in the future so would be more future proof

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £3,438.88 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Anything obvious im missing or looking good? just need to figure out 5080 or 5090 !

What is it that you're looking for from your gaming experience? Are you thinking of the highest/ultra settings at high refresh with the latest games, or is it something else?

If your requirements are modest (e.g. 4K/60, or mainly older games), then buying a 5090 to "future proof" is not the way I'd go, because you'll end up spending more over time than even if you upgraded the card (like a 5070 Ti) again in 2-4 years.

5080 Super: I doubt it, nvidia won't want to damage sales of the 5090. It'll likely just be the 5080 with more memory and maybe a slight bump in performance. The 6080, the 5080 is still slower than a 4090, so...

Wrap your head in a Big Nev shirt and start humming the theme tune of Red Dwarf (series 6). If you're not intending to upgrade from 1440p for a few years (Personally, 1440p is the sweet spot for resolution/speed) the 5080 will still be a luxury purchase for most games.

You could put the saved ~£900 saving towards a new desk and then have unlimited case choice.

Oddly enough, I bought my daughter the Fractal Design North recently - mid-tower. I've always been a fan of Fractal but was really impressed with the case. It's a great build quality, classy looking (with muted RGB) and very easy to work on (wider cases make cable management a breeze). It seems to coincide with your natural wood tastes from pics - although the desk would have to be amputated or repurposed/sold as it's 115mm... But, it only accommodates a 240 AIO at the top of case (it does 340 at the front). But, the XL version does 340mm at the top - but is 503mm long (looking at your pics).

*I stuck a Black Rock 5 (non pro) on top of her CPU as less points of failure and silent. Also, compliments her black B560 Tomahawk board, too.

Not, recommending, as such, but I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked. But, you would have to totally cripple your desk for the XL or buy a new one with money saved buying the 5080

EDIT: My post is 2 posts out of date. I was working while typing - didn't post my reply until i finished what i was doing. Read accordingly. And obviously second @Tetras sentiments regarding GPU

ok ok ty guys I've got my big Nev shirt on & I will go 5080 and be more than happy with that! a solid 1440P will be plenty for my needs....

the cases look very nice my current is fractal and I cant complain ! - im not fussed about the guts colour scheme... I shall have a closer look in the morning see what arrange but I think the XL is 1 step to far..

so remove the arctic aio & add a Dark rock 5

whats the best psu for a 5080 still 1200W I have or can reduce it?

Maybe stick with a 1200w so you can upgrade to a RTX 6090 Ti Super in the future?!?
