3.5" IDE enclosure with Firewire 800?

My 3.5" enclosure is acting up - keep having to repair disks after using it and I'm pretty sure it's not the drives as it's happening with different ones.

I was thinking about getting a new enclosure, one with a firewire 800 interface to connect to my Mac, but as most of my large drives are IDE, I wasn't sure if any enclosures with firewire 800 would also support the older IDE format...

Any ideas??

You would have a bottle neek at your IDE HDD.

Ah right, of course, I didn't think about this!

Might be an idea to ditch the IDE drive and enclosure and just go SATA2??

Nothing wrong with the drive being the bottleneck, if it is then you know you're getting the full speed of the drive.

That said there seems to be a dearth not only of FW800 caddies but any kind of IDE one.
