3.5" to 2.5" adaptor

Which way round do I plug the 2.5" into this adaptor?

At a guess put the laptop drive label up and then fit the adapter so that the notch in the 40pin port is facing up too. That's the usual orientation for 3.5" HDDs so I assume that it's wired that way for the 2.5" end too.

I could have course be talking complete garbage.

is there any marking like 1 and 44 etc?, my adaptor does, which is almost same one in this pic
