I use my main speakers for both my xbox and PC, they connect to em by a 3.5mm plug. I'm looking for something to switch between the two (or combine them), so I don't have to mess around under the desk every time i want to play on the xbox, but don't know what they're called or where i can find one! The speaker has a male 3.5mm jack on it that i plug into a headphones socket on the pc or xbox. Thanks for any help :)

Not sure such a thing readily exists. I see 2 options:

Buy a switch from a certain competitor. It will use phono/rca sockets and buy the required adapters to use it.

Build one yourself. It isn't complicated; do you have a soldering iron?

I would build you one myself, but don't know how that would work with payment etc

Wouldent an audio splitter do ?

Using a splitter to link two inputs would connects the grounds together. Which is a bad thing. Get a cheap mixer.

Yes, a splitter is quite unsuitable. Seems a shame to spend £30 odd on a mixer which may degrade the quality a bit too. The parts for a switch cost under £3 (supply your own 3.5mm jack-jack cables, including them £5) :)

or if the pc is on all the time, just connect the xbox to the line-in on your soundcard? :)

Thing is that it's not always on, if I want to watch a film i stick it in the xbox and shut the pc off, since the xbox is a lot quieter. I might get a phono/rca switcher, the xbox actually connects by phono cables, it's got an adapter on it, so I'd just need to buy 1 extra adaptor to convert the PC from 3.5mm to phono. I've just got to decide whether it's worth £10 for a switcher...

Plantronics do a little 3.5mm manual switcher for this. Can't remember any model numbers, but they're definitely out there.

Indeed they do. It's the wrong way round unfortunately, for switching one source to 2 output devices, not 2 sources to 1. Unless your thinking of a different one? This one could be used with the right adapters, but it might well cost a similar amount in the end. Really nice to have some electronics knowledge and soldering tools sometimes, get exactly what you want as cheaply as possible :)
