Hey guys,

got a problem :(

i went to format my computer using the bootable CD and the setup wouldnt run - it just hung on checking disk (giving a number of bytes remaining) - so i unplugged all hard drives other than my boot drive and ran the install fine... everything is working so i plugged the other 3 back in. Windows wouldnt boot.

I started plugging one in each time i rebooted and found the one thats causing the problem.

When ever i plug it in i get the windows splash screen with the loading bar in the centre, then just a black screen afterwards.

I've checked the boot order and everything is fine there. I've not changed the jumpers since the system was running fine before i formatted.

The only thing i can think of is that the hard drive is very full - 300gb with about 200meg remaining.... would this cause a problem ?

Im not sure other than that, Please help !

What is the motherboard/controller your using and what are the hard drives?

MSI K8N Neo II Platinum onboard SATA controller

4 SATA points, using all 4

the hard drives are

74GB Raptor (Boot)
200gb Maxtor (backups)
300gb Maxtor (Media)
300gb Maxtor (Media)

and its the last one thats messing up :(

further developments:

i unplugged media hard drive one (which is connected to SATA plug 3)

and connected media hard drive two (to SATA plug 3)

and the hard drive works fine, everything is still there and windows is alright with that

it just as soon as i use SATA plug 4 - everything stops working
