£3 mod of win

They're white:p - It's no surprise considering how long it took people to notice what had changed between the first and last pic in OP. I guess I'm just too picky when it comes to the little details.

Err... why? :(

I like red needles, dad has them on his Accord on black dial faces, they look nice, cousin has them on her Ibiza 130ps tdi, same again looks really nice. Just offsets the dash IMO.

Basically ^this, I like red needles :)

Very easy once you have the cluster on your desk.

Accuracy is not affected, the servos re-calibrate themselves as soon as you plug in the 2nd connector (you'll see and hear it) so if you accidentally move a needle just put it on zero and let the car do the rest when it's plugged back in.

Couple of strokes with a red Sharpie (e46fanatics guys recommended Sharpie over other markers because of the finish and amount of light it lets through) only on the top of the needle as that is the only part that is white, the rest is clear plastic then job is done,

No? Only if the mileage and/or VIN in the cluster and the LCM don't match will the tamper warning illuminate.

I thought for a minute you were going to solder in a load of blue smt LEDs like an obsessive VXR owner when I saw the first pic. :p

Couldn't you have used a friend's/your OH's nail polish? Would've given a less translucent coat for when the clocks are lit.

Still, red > white.

Any idea how it will look in 2-3 years time?, with regards to the marker pen ink.

Sharpies are fade and water resistant so considering the needles will never get direct sunlight or outside air it should remain the same for many years. I've not seen anyone mention fading or anything during my researching before doing it!

That would then have meant the needles aren't as visible at night because the nail polish won't let as much light through whilst the marker does! - as in the 2nd pic, in normal running you will never be able to tell that it was a diy job even up close.

I'd have chosen illuminous green, tbh.

Like Spoon gauges?

aye, Spoon EK9 revved to 11000rpm but it wasn't any faster than a stock EK9. There's a video on youtube somewhere.

/back on topic:p
