well my new 150 raptor seems to have died...

a few days it was clicking, and hanging, then yesterday pc rebooted and it says no HD detected :(

turn on and it clicks and then sort of whirls down to silence....

If I RMA it what happens to the info on it? personal details etc- i just want it replaced?

Am

im no expert but i assume you would lose the info as they will have to take it apart or replace and send yoau diff one. but i have never sent a hdd back soo not 100%

They'll just send you a new/refurbed one and probably bin the old drive if it's not easily fixable. Chances are slim/nil that they'll attempt any sort of data recovery.

My mates Raptor 150gb booted 3 times then totally died ! Wouldnt even spin up.

H sent it back to WD, and 3 days later had a brand new one. I have always tried to buy WD as there warrenty service is second. No quibble, quick returns.

just out of curiosity does the warranty only apply if you register your driver or is a reciept of sale with dte on it it enough ?? i only ask cause i installed all my driverd and forgot to write down the dateon the stick for registering purposes and couldnt be bothered to remove evferything to read it,

Nope. As long as it has the sticker with the manufacturer date on youll be fine. I never registered any of my disks.

As for your personal info, they say somewhere on their homepage that the testing to find the error will make it unusable and unreadable for the tech-crew.
They generally send you a new harddrive as soon as they see it not being able to run.
I have recieved great service from WD I RMA'ed a 250 GB drive and got a 500 GB in return... But you seem to have the largest raptor.

Curious

Can do either, WD might be a bit faster but that depends on whether OcUK would bother sending it off to WD themselves anyway.

You would be correct. If you send it back to us, you have time it takes to get to us, then the time it takes us to send it to WD and back again plus the extra time for us to get it back to you.

WD only involves them and yourselves.

chances are, if you cant get the hdd to boot up, or read it as a secondary disk, all your data is gone anyway

Far from it, in a lot of cases the failure is limited to the PCB on the back of the disk, In these cases it can be possible to replace the PCB and the data will still be intact.
