ok I've got to build 3 PCs, I've got somewhere in the order of £700 and £750 to spend on each system, but this may change depending on the insurance co (this is for an insurance claim).

I have cases for all these systems.

PC 1 is mine, gaming mainly, large hard drive needed (250+) with a wadge of ram needs to be good for folding.

PC 2 is mums, office work mostly, a little gaming (had a x700 before, was fine), 160gig drive would be fine. needs to be good for folding.

PC 3 is the office spair, this is used about once or twice a week, the rest of the time its just folding, no games other than freecell. must be good for folding!

Lee gave me this starting point on the DC forums there are a few things I'm not into tho.

I would get something like this for your gaming machine. Change the gfx card to a 7600GT for your mum and 7300GS for the folding one and get Geil Ultra Low latency ram instead.
This mobo should let you overclock the conroe over 3.5ghz. These systems would be great for folding :)

a) not a Thermaltake fan, AT ALL, I'd love to avoid this if posable,
b) I'm not sure about using Value ram, I've been using OCz Platinum untill now, this is my first venture into DDR2 so I'm unsure what to look for.
c) I'm ok with a slower processor if it meens a larger hard drive.
d) I will be overclocking these systems as much as I posably can, so bear that in mind.

its just a pitty I can't use my old water cooling on my system (got a maze 3 setup, 1/2'' pipe, 120.2 rad, works quite well on my 2500XP at 3200, but I realise the fittings are different for these new systems.

I'm ok going for AMD setup, but I understand that Core Duo are better (at the moment).

also it would be realy cool if eveything was in stock atm (so I can get on with the order)

so guys, can you help me?

PS Gibbo, if you wanna put the items on my list on the this week only bit that would realy be nice! :D

cant post the url ;)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) yeah? or the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR)?

sorry, not up to speed on intel coolers sadly!

Would you not be better having different specs for each computer and assign the majority of the budget to PC1. For instance an X1800XT will be overkill for PC2/3

I assume from the spec you quoted you are just looking for base units (ie no keyboard/mouse/monitor/etc)

PC 2 & 3

VAT £162.45
Total £1,090.73

So you now have £1150+ for PC1 ;)

edit: I put the Akasa cooler in as it's a decent cooler and is in stock, whereas the Arctic Cooling isn't - though if you can wait it is a better cooler

update, I've managed to scrounge enough bits for PC3
but it looks like we're getting less for the 3rd dead PC, I'll update the info when I can.

ok, we're probbably going to get 750, 750, 500 (£2000)

BUT I need to have quotes for pcs of that value!

arn't insurance companys brilliant!

err,
this may sounds stupid (as I'm still thinking in DDR ways) but, if I have a E6600 with 1066 FSB, won't I need ram with 1066FSB?

No, and imo it's not stupid, I had to have it explained to me a number of times :o

Explicit provided a handy little guide HERE
