I got the NIP through the post last week, admitted the offence and sent it back. My own fault, didn't realise that they changed the limit from a 40 to a 30.

I have been given a choice of taking the Speed awareness course, or opt for the 3 points and fine.

Does everyone take the course, or do some drivers save it for another time.

I don't have any other points on my license, but thinking what kind of increase would I be looking at for my car insurance which is due in July if I take the points.

Do 3 points make a big difference to insurance?

Also if you take the course do you pay a bigger fine?

I'd just take the points and not be bored to tears if so.

(That's if you have 0 points to begin with)

It says you can only take the course once every 3 years. So if opt for the 3 points and if I have another error in judgement I could take the course then and have all my points wiped off.

They won't 'wipe points off' if you got caught in a year and did the course then.

I'm not even sure the offer of a course remains if you decline it at first offer, until that three years expires.

You can "attend" a course once every 3 years. being offered doesn't go against you if you decline to use it.

I've been on 3 now..............

Learnt what....To be aware of my speed....I'm well aware of my speed...Its just sometimes in the 70-100k miles I drive per year I push it a little...
The fact I've been offered the courses shows I don't spank the limits.....just push them a little

At least I know I'm doing it

Whichever you choose, be aware that some insurers (admiral group etc.) ask directly if you've been on a course and jack up your premium appropriately.

Actually learn something from the course about how to avoid it?

Not aimed at you personally but some people seem to drive around with their eyes closed in something which can kill someone with an 'error of judgement'. I'm no angel but I don't get it.
