Would this number of owners put you off buying a car?

The vehicle in question is on a 07 plate and having rang the dealer it was owned from new until only 2008, from 2008 - 2011 and then it arrived with them in 2013 as a part ex against a focus ST.

The first owner having it only for 1 year almost strikes me as odd but I suppose some people are like that and with the others keeping it 2-3 years it doesn't seem like there would be anything major going wrong with it.

I'm going to give it a test drive and see how things pan out, the number of owners may make a good bargaining chip if everything checks out with the car.

3 owners is not too many really. If the last owner didn't keep it for long then I may be worried.

I'm the 3rd owner of my current car. The first owner only kept it for a year but the next one kept it for 7 years. In those circumstances the first owner barely counts.

Could have been a demo car which would explain the first owner. Then simply went through two other owners. What is the mileage like?

Depends on the car really as many special cars have lots of owners, 6 or 7 is not uncommon for a CSL for example. Would prefer less though myself.

It all depends on the age of and type of car but I'm pretty much of the opinion above in this case, had it been a 10+ year old example 3 owners wouldn't really bother me at all though.

The main driver is that I tend to only keep cars a maximum of two years so wouldn't want to be selling that same 07 plate car in 2015 as an 8 year old, 4 owner example.

I don't think it'd put me off - my Lexus has had 14 previous owners.

I thought I'd put the car in the OP, it's just a common or garden Mondeo, I think I'll see how the drive goes and if I can haggle a little on the price.

Mine has 5 previous :o,(2006 Octavia VRS) car. Was a demo first though and i bought on condition.

Last owner before me had it 2 years. I don't know why it had 4 owners in the first 3/4 years of its life and i guess i never will know. I had the service reports from the dealer it was bought and serviced at for the first three years of its life and they confirmed the record and said nothing untoward came up on the history (just standard bits, tyres, brakes e.t.c)

I would still say it is much better to try and get 1 previous owner cars though as a rule.

In all honesty i chop and change my cars very frequently so i shouldnt really let it put me off!

Mines had quite a few though I can understand why with its higher running costs than your average car (I'm looking at you previous owner who owned it an entire 4 months!). Something like that is easy to overlook when you've got your new car glasses on lol suspect there are many other big engined cars like that as well as other high end Audi's and BMW's etc

However 4 certainly wouldn't put me off

Personally I wouldnt want more than 2 previous owners on a car 6 years old. Check for any advisories on the last few MOT's and go through the service history carefully. If the service history and condition are all good I guess its worth considering.

According to the car supermarket, it makes no difference to the price and you are just being picky if you query why when they told you it had one but turns out it had 4 previous owners.

Saying that, I have put nearly 80k miles on my 5 series and it hasn't exploded yet.

My 2005 pd150 Leon had 5 previous owners.

The amount of owners has never put me off before as you don't know if they have looked after it. A good example of this is one of my mates. He had a 1998 106 that had 2 owners and there were so many problems for at the time was a 10 year old car.
