Ok, new problems with my recently built pc!

1) I noticed today that my keyboard lights stay on after the pc is shut down. Its all the lights for 'play, stop, skip' etc its my old Dell keyboard from my old system.
Basically they never go off now, which makes me worry something still has power going around when it shouldn't...?!

2) I noticed also today that all video content (especially noticeable on HD stuff) seems to play back a bit oddly, the image looks like it can't update all at once, so some sections look like they are a frame behind before they catch up. Not sure how to explain it other than tearing/flickering. Its only on fast moving footage though. Also noticed if I move an open window round the screen quickly it also looks like its doing the same thing.

I'd have thought the system (7600GS 512, E6600 2.4, 2gig ram) would be powerful enought to run everything ok at 1900x1200?!

3) My 24" Dell monitor has what looks like a hair under the screen! Called OCUK today to tell them as it only just arrived and between them and Dell I am getting a replacement sent out but not for 10 days :(

Its times like this I wish I'd got that iMac...lol

1) the mothrboard still recieves power even when the psu is off. mine has ligh on it wich is on allwhile unless turned off at mains can see the glow at night through the rear vents. as result some motherboards are desighed to supply power to usb so you can turn pc on by pressing keyboard. if your keyboard is usb this could be why lights are on

2) at that high res. i would have thought you would need better gfx for games but for just moving a window around hmm shold be fine. hd video uses a lot of power thoiugh,

3) gutted, could be worse could have dead pixel wich aint covered.

I had a bug that lived in my monitor (LG L1730P).

It lived between the actual display and the coating - so you could see it walking around all over your desktop but couldnt actually touch it.

It was absolutely halarious. Lived for about a week and then i never saw it again (sniff)

As for the answers to your Q's, sounds like fishdude has it all covered.

Thanks for the reply.

As long as its nothing to worry about I'm not too bothered. I was worried something may have been wired up wrong. Its not a USB keyboard though...

Yeah I'm not going to be playing games on this but it is slightly bugging me that fast movement (HD or otherwise) appears a bit choppy. I need to get to the bottom of this one quickly as I want to use the pc for viewing HD content. I hope its not the gfx card being under powered as now its been installed I doubt I can exchange it :(

Yeah true, I just pray the replacement doesn't have a stuck pixel!!!

 :D

I've just tried a 1080 HD movie in Media Player & VLC and it works with no choppyness! Seems its a quicktime thing as far as video playback goes. Handy that seeing as all the trailers come out on the Apple site

Its annoying you don't get this problem when viewing HD content through QT on a lower spec G5, so why should you when doing so through windows. Guess its because QT is a native Mac bit of software?!

Sure do, I have also upgraded it to the pro version. Had a quick look around the settings and can't see anything obvious that would make a difference. I did a quick google and it seems a lot of people experience choppy playback with QT :(

And you wanted to get an iMac :P

Lol, just kidding, yeah I have had that problem before with some videos, but nothing using another media player wont solve (as you've already discovered :))

The 'tearing' effect in videos and games can be reduced a bit by right clicking the nvidia system tray> performance and quality settings> system performance> highest quality (not highest performance)

It used to do it on my old 6600 and sometimes does it with my new 7600gt. I just learned to ignore it though.

lol.

The thing is, we have loads of Macs at work and not one of them has a problem playing back 1080p HD content in QT. Its very frustrating but as long as I can get QT movies to play in another media player I dont mind too much :)

I've already got it set that way but thanks for the tip :)

During summer we had the window open lots at work and about 5 or 6 monitors had lots of those little black thunderbugs in them, some escaped, most died in there
