Hi,

A work friend's 360 died last night. It had been locking up the night before and was giving him intermittent red lights, but yesterday when he got home it would do nothing and he just got the 3 red lights. He has phoned it through to Microsoft support and they have sent him a return pack so it can be collected via DHL. So apart from being pretty gutted that his day 1 360 has died the day Tomb Raider turns up, he is now wondering how long he will be without his machine? What is the turn around time like? Will they try to repair his console or will he be sent a new or refurbished one?

Apparently there is a 40 page thread on the Xbox forums of people complaining about their 360s all going dead since a recent update. I am not sure what truth there is in this or if its more just coincidence? Just hope mine doesn't die now!

Turn around is around 3-5 days after you have sent your console back. (or at least it was for me)

The latest update hasn't caused any issues with my 360. (premium) or the core I had before it.

he should have taken the console back to were he purchased it, as he would here been given a brand new machine

Microsoft will send a Refurbished one, which had been sent it with a fault

Correct. When you have a faulty product you should always take it back to the place you bought it from, your contract is with them so they legally have to replace the faulty item (especially if the fault occurs in the first 6 months, when the retailer has to prove a fault *wasn't* there when it was sold, which is very very hard to prove).

I am just curious, when you send your console off to MS, do you get your original HD back as is - or is it and new one/wiped clean? I know the Xbox 1 HD were wiped clean when sent in.

Sorry to semi-hijack :)

Yeah, whilst I bought mine from game online, I just took it back to my local store and they exchanged it no questions asked. I was only without a console for less than an hour!

Good question. Whoever I dealt with regarding a faulty 360, I'd tell them I wanted to keep my HDD unless they were absolutely certain it was the problem. I don't fancy losing all the game saves I've got on there.

Thanks for all your replys.

I think he is still going to go down the MS route, although I think he would be best of returning it to Gameplay and getting a brand new replacement.

Apparently MS insisted that he return the HD as this could be part of the problem, so he is going to bring his HD round to mine and copy all his save game data to a memory card.

No red lights here, but the system kept locking up, mostly on oblivion, but also statred to do it in other games like GRAW and condemned. So, called microsoft on monday, recieved the box weds, and posted yesterday. First console I've had at launch that has had problems, I still have a day one PS2 that works fine.

Also, MS insist that you send back the hard drive and the power supply, as either of these could be causing a problem, luckily my mate had a memory card that I could borrow, didn't fancy losing 50 hours worth of oblivion saves. Gutted, I just hope I get it back for easter weekend, I have some time off and was looking forwards to some multiplayer. :(

My friends was having region problems and got his replaced, but we went halves on a Memory Card so that should it break we were covered by having our saves backed up.

Ironically, his BRAND new model has already thrown up a region problem.

Well my friend bought a Memory Unit at lunch time and we put his HD in my 360 to extract all of his game saves. However he was not at all impressed to find that both PDZ and DoA4 would not allow the save game file to be copied!!

So he is now going to have to tell MS that he won't be sending the HD back, as it unlikely to be the cause of the red lights. Hopefully they will be ok with that :(

My friend had the same problem, neither of those 2 games transfer, it's daft really.

You can transfer the PDZ save data, you just have to do it in the game's menus. Maybe DoA4 is the same.
Really? Can you give me any more details? I have told my friend this and he can't think where it is possible to do this and needs to know if its worth him driving back down to mine again this weekend with the game!

Thanks

To reiterate what someone else said, he should take it back to the shop. I've had 4 refurbished consoles from MS now and when the fourth one arrived it was broken. Turned out it was the HD that was faulty.

taken 2 back to GAME now, 3rd one is great, defo a newer one, quieter, never crashes.

dont settle for a refurb when you are intitiled to a new one

Take it back to Dixons mate, I'm not sure I would believe the CS person who told you they are giving new ones out. I've been giving so much conflicting information from the CS's people in the past. They don't all seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet.
