30 mph !

So i've had a 19 year break from driving.
If I didn't need to drive i wouldn't but i do.

soooooooo:

I stick to the speed limit and the roads on my commute to work are 30 mph zones.
I'ts starting to wind me up the amount of people that drive up me bum because i am sticking to the speed limit.

I don't remember it being this bad 19 years ago or are people just more rude these days?

Also do cars behind appear closer in your rear view mirror than they actually are ?

i'm trying to train myself not to look in my rear view mirror if i am just staying in my lane because
i think i'm getting a bit obsessed with it and i try and tell myself to keep an eye on where i am going rather than where i have been and just let the law breaker behind get angry instead of me.
BUT i am struggling :D

anyone else experience my 3rd world issue ?

TBH 19 years ago that 30mph road was probably a 40mph road and traffic was a lot lighter. The standard of driving was generally better too.

What beats me is the number of people who don't learn from their mistakes and/or adapt their driving - driving the same roads regularly I often encounter the same drivers for instance there is a pretty nasty bend at the end of my garden and soon after moving in saw a driver take a lazy line and too fast and come within inches of a bad collision with a lorry to their obvious shock and horror - seen them several times since taking the corner with no modification to their approach with close but not as close calls then today when I was coming around it with my dad - if it wasn't for the fact we've seen how so many drivers take it and approach with that in mind they'd have had a pretty nasty collision - same look of shock and terror for a moment thinking they were going to hit us head on - bet they still approach the corner the same way tomorrow!

One of the main rules in the highway code: don't do anything that causes another driver to change speed or direction. People who pull out into traffic and don't get to up to speed quickly deserve to be disqualified.

100% agreed, especially if I'm driving my work vehicles (10+ ton)

Yup really annoys me when people are basically up your arse for no reason at all, I do my best to maintain the speed limit or thereabouts.

Conversely people that do 10mph under the speed limit for no good reason do grind my gears, even consciously driving past numerous speed limit signs that display the correct speed to be aiming for (as long as conditions are good).

Obviously there is going to be stuff like vans and trucks that are limited to 50 instead of 60 in a NSL, etc. - being involved in the van driving side at work it is something I find generally there isn't awareness of albeit most van drivers happily ignore those limits.

*waves* large vehicle driver here. I'm limited to 50 and occasionally required to use a short stretch of motorway. I hate it.

If they've got the nerve to do it they can take all the risks of a 30mph zone overtake so they can do the speed they feel happy with.

But same goes for you meeting a slower road user. Don't harass them and risk is again all yours to get past them.

Well saying that, the usual thing is buses but I've never seen anyone dense enough to harass a bus. Or a HGV for that matter. You tailgate those and they can't even see you to give a **** :p

*waves* Bus driver here and yes people do try to bully/tailgate buses. Usually German/Vauxhall.
