Hey :)

Looking to pick up a new camera for my travels, as my ancient FZ28 is a bit naff nowadays and tbh it is too large to carry around - and I hardly ever use super-zoom anymore. I'm looking for something far smaller, preferably with WiFi, and decent low-light performance.

Options so far seem to be:

Sony a5000 - small size, large sensor
Panasonic GM1 - tiny, 4/3s, touchscreen, small battery, bit old now?
Sony RX100 - compact with 1" sensor
Panasonic GF7 - small, touchscreen, 4/3s, small battery

It seems to basically be a toss-up of large sensor or touchscreen, and I'm currently leaning towards the a5000. The other alternative is to get a used a6000, to get a large sensor with better focusing and a touchscreen for the same price.

Any personal recommendations?

Ta :)

I think you need to decide whether you want an interchangeable lens camera or not?

If you do, the m4/3 and NEX/alpha systems all have their merits but require greater investment in glass. If not, the RX100 under £300 is the original and missing some of the features of the newer models.

Also you'll struggle to get an a6000 with a lens for less than £300, even used.

The kit lens of the Panasonic GM1/GF7 is better than than the Sony a5000 one, that's for sure.

Missus has a Oly O-MD E-M10 (mark 1) 4/3s and it's a lovely camera ... you could get body only and add the F1.8 25mm prime. Takes you over budget though unless you could find second hand.

With above you get a good sensor, touchscreen, great fast lens and 3 axis in body IS which really helps things..plus vintage styling which I kinda like :)

A6000 though is hard to beat I would have thought.

I would read a ton of reviews and then base decision on that.

edit: you can pickup RX100 Mk1s pretty cheap...

I might get branded as a heathen here, but if you want something for snapping pics where size is a priority, just get a decent smartphone or iPhone. For £300 you could get something like a Canon 100D kit which is vastly superior, but fails your size comment.

I'm a photography novice but I can recommend the a6000 if you can stretch to it. Bought one while in HK on holiday as wanted to get better pics than my phone :p

Was gutted it didn't have touch screen but I'm not bothered about it at all now. And having the display in the view finder is awesome!
