I'm looking to upgrade my computer and for practical reasons would like to buy a SFF.

Could anybody suggest a case that would suit the new Core2 Duo's (i have the E6600 in mind)? My budget for the overall system including the processor is around £300 - tight i know, help anyone? :)

What do you have already? I take it graphics, screen, etc.?

An entire SFF with an e6600 for £300 is pretty much impossible.

Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 NCQ 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM £32.99
(£38.76)
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail £51.99
(£61.09)
Antec NSK1300 ATX Cube Case - 300W PSU £49.99
(£58.74)
Sony DDU-1615 DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM £9.99
(£11.74)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC)£49.99
(£58.74)
Asus ATI Radeon X1050/TD 128MB HyperMemory TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £21.99
(£25.84)
Abit IP-95 Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard£31.99
(£37.59)
Sub Total : £248.93
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £9.95
VAT is being charged at 17.5% VAT : £45.30
Total : £304.18

Best I could do, of course if you have a DVD drive, graphics and HD already then you're a lot closer to having an e6600. If you wait until July 22nd there should be a price drop on the Intels.

hey Raikiri,

thanks for the speedy response, yeah sorry i meant to say that all that i'll really be needing is the case, processor and RAM.
I've heard about the 22nd July price cuts so hopefully the E6600 will definitely be a viable option considering my tight budget.

Antec NSK1300 ATX Cube Case - 300W PSU £49.99

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail £51.99

Abit IP-95 Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard£31.99

I've taken your selection to just over £200 which is definitely better but I was hoping you could advise of a SFF case with more of a Shuttle footprint rather than the Micro ATX which from what I can see are significantly wider :(

Any budget-ish barebone Shuttle/Aopen/Biostar with Core2Duo compatiible motherboard suggestions are very welcome!

SS30G2 is the cheapest I can find at around £150 however it only supports the 800mhz Core 2 Duos such as the e4400/e4300.

you could get a sugo sg01e and a psu for about the same (although not from ocuk)

i've decided i'll just go for a SFF case that supports micro atx motherboard, in which case can anybody recommend the best motherboard to suit a SFF case?

i'm thinking of getting the Antec NSK1300 ATX Cube Case that Raikiri suggested unless anybody knows of a better case for about the same price :)

i had an abit ip-95 and it was pants. well it did what it said on the box but if you want sata2, ddr667 and to be able to overclock the cpu then its pants.
i changed it for the asrock945g-dvi, which gives a bit more head room for overclocking and can take 667 ram and is sata2. its best to search for other peoples comments on different boards, it would also depend on your budget.
