£300 upgrade Help

if im honest, I personally would rather spend an extra 30 or so pounds on a 7950, resale value in the future, and its easier than overclocking a card to be as good as it, for the minor price difference... To me, 10% more cost for a better product is worth it. but the 7870 is a good shout if you cant move on your budget...

That's a fair comment fella.

Once again I apologise over the confusion with the mobo and RAM config. Bit of a brain fart there, I was thinking of the Rampage and seeing you had 6GB of RAM my brain automatically thought 3X2GB sticks.

RAM prices seem to be going up and up lately. Ideally you want the lowest CAS speed but the difference between C9 and C11 in the real world makes little odds.

Look at the 14400+ kits as well as 12800. They can often be priced very close and obviously if you can get faster RAM for a similar price it's a no brainer. As you have a CLC you won't be limited to just using low profile RAM but that would be a more sensible purchase.

Right then fellas,

After your input i decided to go with a 7950 and 16gb kit
got them for reasonable monies also i am an impatient bar steward...

Sapphire Vapor-X 3gb - Corsair xms-3 16gb 1600mhz
£348

Arrives tomorrow, feel like a little kid. hah

Decided putting of a new case for another month or so
feel i need to research them a bit more as my last "informed buy" hah:mad:
was awful...

Definitely looking for an understated mid tower/compact case though
Open to some suggestions here !

anyway guys thanks for pro tips

cheers

Blah...

Canceled the Order, spent most of the night looking through sapphires forums
was enough whine and issues to worry me

Going to order from here where i should have in the first instance

That said i chose the MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III
Lets hope REV-2 is working now eh?

probably going to send the RAM back also
(Not just an impatient bar steward i'm an indecisive loony to boot)

correct me if wrong,
But if i grab a decent 8gb ram kit now further down the line i can add another 8gb
of the same kit with no issues ? (to make 16gb)

If so was looking at:
Corsair Dominator GT 8GB (CMT8GX3M2B2133C9)

Its faster and matches my mobo color Haha...
even if i end up with a non-windowed case, it would annoy me knowing :p

Cheers :D

Weird. The sapphire card was supposed to be one of the best. Yeah, the TF is amazing. Check out the wind force x3 as well.
Yes, you can add another 8gb kit.

So Majour ball ache it seems...

Not sure who's end OC or PayPal,
Basically ordered at 10am paid for Saturday delivery £15
decide to check it at about 3pm WTH! "panic/rage" it's being delivered to our old address...

I can't understand how this has happened as i ordered a hdmi cable two weeks prior
it came to our current address no fuss no bother

"out of pocket and time"

cheers

sapphires forums
was enough whine and issues to worry me

locked bios, overheating vrms, Ref-7950 pcb

Apparently though there is a new REV without the issues
has two 8 pins... dunno ??

Anyhow like the style of the msi far more.
I just hope that rev 2 fixed the fan issues, some report same problems

(guess these uber £250+ cards are a lottery half the time)

Not many 7950's are 7970 PCBs. Less than 10 I believe.
Also, it seems like you are just reading reviews from those who have the problems. I haven't heard many problems with most of these cards. Maybe you're reading the negatives that people are having which are probably a minor amount of people.
I know for a fact that the TF7950 and TF680 have no issues. I have owned a couple and tested multiple out when I built pcs for mates.
