Hi all,

Is there much of a difference between the 3000+ and the 3500+? Looking mainly at gaming.

Thanks
Paul

No not really, go for a x2 3800, not worth a 3000 ---> 3500 I can clock mine to 3800 speeds.

Agreed, im certain you could clock your 3000+ to at least 2.2Ghz ( 3500+ speeds )

Id do as suggested abve and get an X2 3800+, as as stock its faster than a stock 3000+ and should clock quite well.

budget maybe an issue for him. Get the 3000+. Not much of a performance difference and all of them clock to at least 2.2ghz no biggee.

ive got a 3000 atm. not really in to overclocking, what is the s/h price of 3800's atm?

thnx

I picked up a brand new X2 3800 for £170 all in.

So second hand id say £130-160.

Also note... im not an overclocker, but even iv managed to get mine running stable at 2.4Ghz (originally clocked at 2.0Ghz). So if you have a fair idea about what your doing, im sure you could probably get it to 2.5Ghz+ :)

There is no better place to get into overclocking, you'll be able to squeeze more than enough performance out of your 3000 to make it worth your while :D

When you think most people can clock the 64 3000+ over 2.4Ghz easy. The 3000+ is the best value cpu I've ever known. Soem even get it to arounf 2.6Ghz so it will about the same as a 4000+.

Even more than an opty 146 clocked at 2.6ghz for £150?

the Opty clocked at 2.6Ghz will run slightly faster because it has 1mb cache than a 3000+ clocked at 2.6Ghz because the 3000+ has half the cache (512Kb).

just trying my 3000 @ 2.15ghz.... whats the best way to test it?

Oh and why does my motherboard says its locked @ 9x multiplier... is this true? Its an ASrock 939S56M

Multipler is locked on all standard Athlon 64s. Only FXs have unlocked multiplier.

Try running superpi in a loop and prime95.

Thats not a great board for overclocking by the way, or even in general..

Then the 3000 is better value indeed since it is half the price, I guess.

I would save some cash and squeeze some more juice out of your 3000. Is it a Venice core? If so there is loads of info on overclocking it...

... I have one running at 2.65Ghz 24/7 no problems.

You could buy 2 Gb of good G.Skill or OCZ ram instead and have a budget flying machine. :)

it is a venice core. I have Geil Golden Dragon PC3500 ram. Is that any good?

What board would you recommend for me? I know someone who has the MSI K8N Neo4-F nForce4 for sale. Is that any good?
