£3000 To Spend

did no one think of recommending water cooling when he has a budget of £3k or is there not a kit out that will support conroe's yet?

If he doesnt know what to buy for £3000, he wont know much about watercooling :p

He could always dabble his hand in the market, but watercooling is not that neccsary if you ask me, air can get near same results on these low power chips.

If you want to spend that amount on a PC, go for it.

It's definitely not overkill if your serious about your nuts about your machines, and performance.

Only reservation I'd make - wait a bit longer for DX10 era, but that's just a personal decision I'm making with my next build.

So whatever you decide, enjoy the insane system you build.

Even with very good accessories, 3 grand doesn't need to be spent. Many of the comps spec'ed here for ~£1500-£2000 are perfect and will last a long time (DX10 is the only factor which will need some updating). Unless you're stinking rich, I wouldn't spent £3k in your situation

How is spending £3000 on a PC a waste of money.

Also when people are upgrading on this site they are not always upgrading everything, such as Monitor, Speakers, Keyboard-Mouse, Case.

If you are starting from scratch a budget of £3000 will get you a really nice high specification system, that will not be a waste of money or over the top by any stretch of the immagination.

I agree with what has been said previously. Smoking and drinking is a waste of money. Buying tech is definately not!!!!

OcUK Review & Benchmarks

Price: £2,269.00 (£2,666.07 Including VAT at 17.5%)

My vote goes to £1500 on the PC. £200 or so to make it silent with the right parts & spend the rest on a big monitor, like a 24" one, and a good sound system, £500 will buy you a nice surround system that isnt pointlessly expensive. Like a CA Amp (more than good enough) & some mission speakers.
Make sure you buy a nice mouse & keyboard though. And make sure it goes on a good, large as possible, desk. With a nice comfy chair. :p

Let me be the first to introduce you to the ***Conroe***....

Why Windows Pro and not Home?

What about a decent 24" monitor added to the mix, overkill is referred to when you have crossfire or SLI running a 1280 x 1024 monitor although not in my book I may add ;). If you are going 7950 you want a 24" surely.

You also want a Raptor for the OS, keeping it quick!!!
