My sister is currently living in America teaching at a small school. She has been offered a Nissan 300zx 2l twin turbo for about $2500. Is there anything that she needs to look out for when she goes to have a look at it? Bear in mind she is not mechanically minded at all in the slightest. I don't know what year it is unfortunetaly.

This is what she told me which in turn she was told by the seller, a mechanic who had finished fixing it up. I don't think she should go for it as she's nothing about cars and he could be trying it on by trying to sell her a heap and making stuff up.

The MR2 manages it quite happily...

the MR2 turbo does NOT have a twin turbo setup.

Tell me how you can effectively run a turbine off two cylinders :p

you are probably confusing it with twin ENTRY turbo, which the 3SGTE uses (I should know, I have that engine) which only uses one turbocharger.

Yup, i stand corrected :o I did think you had an MR2...

You can have a single cylinder engine quite happily running a turbo.

So having a turbo running off two cylinders is not a problem at all.

A twin turbo four cylinder could be run like that, one turbo per two cylinders or it coud be run so that both turbo's run off all four cylinders.

Either is not a problem, there are various ways of doing it, and they all have their own pros and cons.

The 300ZX is not very suitable for someone who knows little about cars. It's potentialy expensive to run and maintain, and is not the most practical car.

I could run a turbo by just blowing into it but thats not the point, I was lead to believe that a regular 2l 16v engine doesn't flow enough gas to run a reasonable sized turbocharger that would actually give you a decent amount of power

Its easy enough, you just have to have turbos small enough. RC Developments did a quad turbo Evo a while back IIRC.

As Bear said, you just get the right turbo for the job, be it an off the shelf or a nice hybrid, but any engine of any size cc can make use of a turbo.

Even little 250cc engines have been turboed, and more than doubled the output of the engine by doing so.
