Well this will most certainly be my next car but one thing is worrying me. Electrics.

Are we talking lots of electrical faults with these and also some seem to have a squealing heater fan for the cabin. Whats that all about? Cheap to fix?

I'm also looking at the 306 HDI and would be interested in any links you may have. I'm stil wondering whether to go for a 306 HDI or a 1.8 petrol focus, so any information would be great.

If you do more than 12,000 miles a year i'd say HDI all the way. In this day and age economy is a big factor and the HDI is much more economical

One major reason why I am going for the 306 is insurance. At £700 a year it's a large saving over the Saxo. The 306 is also bigger, safer and is nice on fuel. I suppose tax would be higher though?

I have considered the Focus. The 1.6 is a bit too slow and the 1.8 is not good on insurance which I want to decrease in cost. Well for me, being 18.

£175 for 12 months :)

No, some do have electrical problems though those who do rant and rave about them on the net and the ones who dont keep quiet so it looks like the majority have problems, when really they dont. My 2 306's I have had have had no electrical problems as of yet apart from the heater lights occasionally not lighting up and requiring a knock on them. You can have problems in the door looms which are easy to DIY solder but I have had no problems there. No idea about a squeeky heater? Look on pug306.net

I would have thought the insurance difference between a 1.8 and a 1.6 Focus to be negligable given the minor increase in power and insurance group.

Also my main concern on a 306 HDi would be the complex high pressure injection system as this is what appears to be blighting older commonrail diesels.

It's a jump from 4-5 to group 7. I'd love a Focus 1.8 Collection but the insurance is a bit high, well it would be what i'm paying now and I want it to drop lol.

Are there known issues with the HDi engine fox? :)

I am officially an idiot - I am every marketer's fantasy. I have bought a 306 HDI off ebay and not even gone to see it before purchase :( It's costing me £1995. And before you ask the mileage has scared me a lil - 119k but its saving grace was the FSH and 10 stamps in the book so I assume it's been regularly maintained. If anyone would like to laugh at my potential mistake:

Alty's potential Lemon

I am getting a mate who knows about 306s to give it the once over before I pick it up to make sure there's no hidden surprises. He actually thinks the mileage isn't an issue as its a HDI and that it's more than likely been a lease car so its mainly been motorway miles anyway.

I wanted so much to go for a mondeo ghia x but budgetwise you just can't fault the 306 for a 1st car :)

Actually you usually can as they are ridiculously expensive for what they are, given they are every boy racers dream car now (Looks are everything, see how little the equivilent Xsara is worth).

At least the one youve bought doesn't look too outrageous in terms of price and it certainly looks pretty damn nice. Real shame it isnt an AC fitted model though, not sure I'd accept no A/C on anything less than a cheapo banger these days.

Looks pretty nice mate, let us know how you get along with it! While it doesn't have leather interior which some will probably pick up on, I find the cloth seats in mine (same as yours) quite nice anyway.

You've also got the sideskirts so all is well. Well said fox I must say :)

TBH i don't like aircon - i find it hurts my throat too much and prefer just having an open window so weren't fussed about the lack of AC. What's with the sideskirts? Do they not come with them or something or are they different? Also, the icing on the cake tho for me had to be the alloys :D

I wouldnt say the 3 door HDi is a boy racers car really. Boy racers seem to have smaller cars like saxo's,fiesta's,corsa's. If it's left standard it is a very nice car.......it doesn't need to be tampered with.

Alty I'd get the timing belt changed as soon as you get it though!

Code:
DONT KNOW WHEN THE CAM BELT WAS LAST CHANGED.

You'll be looking at big bills if that snaps, so get it changed and you'll have peace of mind :)

Other than that, looks like a nice example! Enjoy :)
