Woke up today car makes a fairly loud grinding noise im guessi?#ng its the starter motor as its onyl when it starts is this safe to drive about with any estimate on how long this will laugh and what this will cost me to be replaced thanks in advance.

It could be that the starter motor isn’t engaging properly because of a dodgy solenoid, in which case it’ll be a simple fix as long as you get it looked at soon. If you have to replace the entire unit a new starter would be about £70-£100 for a 306, probably less for a reconditioned unit, plus labour.

Thanks mate just been out in it the first time i started it didnt do it then it did and then it didnt again , i reckon its on its way out just not yet.
