3070FE Overheating?

Ok, thanks for the advice. I'll try that.

Temps in game seem to be under 80c now in most instances. Hovers at the upper end of 70c. But hopefully this is manageable for the card.
 
1920x1080 running at 144hz



That's a good point. The FPS in the menus hit silly numbers for obvious reasons.

Is there something I should be doing here?
I have a 144hz monitor so in the GeForce control panel I set it to limit the FPS to 144. Should help with the crazy FPS in menus.

I'll play around with the fan curves a little and see if I can knock a few degrees off.

Given how small the case is if I can get it to a stable mid 70c I'll be more comfortable.
 
I have a 3070 FE, it can reach 70-75 under load, almost 80 Celsius if overclocked with fans at stock speed (I've seen it reach ~240w of power under load). Generally, like the RTX 3060 TI FE it's a power efficient design, at least compared to my previous GPU (R9 390).

I would check the power usage under load, since high power usage is the main contributor to heat (this applies to both CPUs and GPUs). You could experiment with setting a power limit if it keeps hitting 240w at stock, this can be easily set in software such as EVGA's Precision X1.

According to this review, it should reach around 220w (this is also the official TDP of the card) under full load:

You can monitor the current / max power usage of your 3070 in games by running GPU-Z in the background during gameplay.

I would try setting the power limit as low as possible initially (see if this affects the clock speeds at all), but leave the voltage /other settings on auto for stability. You can also set a temp limit, which should force a lower power consumption, if the limit is reached.

As for the reason why, GPU dies can vary in quality a bit (feel free to correct me on this!), some may need slightly higher voltages at stock settings.

If still no dice, try removing the side of your case, just to test if this improves GPU load temps (if case airflow is decent it shouldn't matter much).

you may also try to do a little undervolt

962 mv 1920 mhz is a sweet spot to start

your overheating may creep up in heavy-gpu bound games like cyberpunk/metro exodus/rdr 2
 
One of my 3070's fans has an annoying buzzing noise at a certain RPM. I couldn't be bothered to RMA it so I undervolted it and it's now super quiet, the temps are massively reduced and the performance is just as good as where it was before.
It was running at about 79 - 85 C in heavily modded Skyrim, it's now maxing out at around 69 C (I actually got it to 63 C maxed out but the buzzing noise was still evident so I settled with a slightly lower fan speed with an extra 6 degrees C).
Should have just RMA'd it tbh but I'm lazy.
 
If it is the fan nearest front of case so VRM/VRAM end of GPU it will be a Delta (notoriously loud) if the same as the 3080/3090 and it make annoying noise compared to the front fan (AVC brand) at same RPM's over 30%.

Make sure it is not hitting the fins just to be sure.

Yep that's the fan. I tried re-seating it a couple of times by pushing it in a few times, letting it spring back. It's quietened it down a lot but at certain rpms it's still a little buzzy. I'm pretty sure it's not hitting the fins.
When I get around to it I'll open it up to get the serial number off the fan and see if I can get a replacement. Or I'll just live with it...
