3080 power supply

What's the specific model?
During years Coolermaster has had lots of average to low end PSUs and in relation only few good ones.

Anyway even with good quality PSU would consider 750W as lowest for non-reference 3080.
Because 3080 cards draw 500W level power spikes/transients during gaming.

And this is CPU forum, not GPU.

I was using a Corsair 650W PSU perfectly fine with my 3080
Now I'm using a Corsair 750W SFX PSU and it's also working fine

As long as your Coolermaster PSU is a decent one I can't see it being a problem

My MRS got 650 ANTEC Gold and Aourus 3080 Master ... many times PC just turned off... so we have upgraded to 750 and everything it's fine. Even with a small OC... ;)

I'm sure I saw somewhere that an 850w power supply was recommended for a 3080. There is however what's recommended and what you can get away with. Personally I would do what CuriousTomCat said and just try it and monitor things. Or if you can afford it just do what I did, say screw it and grab a 1000w power supply for maximum future proofing

Now if only I could get the graphics card

Hmmm I brought a 850w gold Corsair one for my 3080 when I can actually buy one, I think that’s what’s recommended. Just bare in mind, the recommenced is for the fe card. An Overclockers partner card will likely pull more power and need more

3080Fe worked for me using a Platinum 650w, 8700k @4.8Ghz 1.28, 16Gb, 4 ssd 2 nvme... Had no issues and the PSU is quiet

Was running 3090 of 750W with Amd 5950. No issues.

3-series is not a massive power hog as its believed to be. Its only when you try and OC the wattage goes a bit nuts. Underclocking this card by lowering the voltage actually helps the GFX card.

Why tempt fate, don't skimp on the psu, go for a quality 1000w+ and sleep tight, I just don't get why some pay a fortune on components then play around with borderline power limits.

Exactly that. I too know people who have spent a fortune on all the latest and greatest hardware only to finish off the build with a cheap nasty PSU...??? WHY??!!
its just not worth the risk.

So true, I myself have been bitten with cheap psu and will never make the same mistake again. Welcome to the forum.

Because if it works fine with a 750/800 then it is better to have that than a 1k one as the 1k one will be less efficient most likely having to under draw constantly.

Better to under draw than be on the ragged edge though, I think nvidia recommends 750w as a minimum and I like to be above that minimum just for peace of mind and can apply overclocks without worrying about it. Just my personal choice, I'm sure a good quality 750w would be fine though but Ilike a little headroom and would always recommend going higher than the recommended minimum as it is a minimum.
