3080 power supply

Usually to reach Titanium rating, such PSUs have to be specified at far lower than their actual capacity.

E.G. a 650w Titanium rated one may very well also be a 750-850w Bronze capable unit, but specified for its peak efficiency instead.

The reverse is also true as to why its advisable to spec a PSU 100-200w higher than you actually need, as an 850w Bronze rated unit is going to be more efficient at a lower load.

Still such efficiency ratings alone don't guarantee a quality unit, theres many low end 650w+ units floating around that are Bronze efficient, but will never be capable of safely powering a modern GPU, but you can easily spot this by looking at the price and warranty length as well.

It’s the 650M 80 Plus Silver yes. Sounds like I’ll perhaps need some additional cables but it should have the ability to expand to work with the 3080 then…

Mate had a Corsair RM850, he upgraded to a 3080. System was fine before with a 2080ti but was getting issues with the pc shutting off. Put in a HX1000 and all is good. He does have 5 hdds and x2 m.2 drives and OC's but still I was surprised. The old psu is still ok in another system with the 2080ti.

Personally I'd through a good quality 1000w+ in like the HX1000 platinum
and enjoy years of worry free gaming, but I do like to make
things easy, what the hell, make that the Asus rog thor 1200w that'll power the starship Enterprise

Personally I have an EVGA 1000w T2 in my main PC with a 10 year warranty or however much is now left, and I wouldn't have wanted to have gone for anything less at the time of purchase.

If you're going to spend on a 3080 or better, you can also spend on a decent PSU for it.

Agreed no matter if some here are chuffed they can run a 3090 on a 700w (example but true) as some 850w's cannot handle the Transient Spikes the new top AMD/Nvidia card cause and there is a list online with what make/models cope/do not cope well.

I am wondering the same thing, i have an Antec High Current Pro 850w from 2012 (Its absolutely bombproof at the moment, touch wood) and am patiently waiting for my 3080 to see if i will need to replace it as it is getting on in age.

That psu is perfectly fine running a 3080. Plenty of headroom

I may end up having to upgrade it later this year anyway if intel comes out with a great product in the 12th gen alongside their revised power design and connector... Heres hoping thats not the case, it was an expensive PSU when i bought it but it has paid for its self over and over.

Thats one of the highest end units you can get, shouldn't normally have a problem with it but if its over 8 years old then I would still get a new one.

I just had an XFX 850w with seasonic OEM die in about 10 years, while it was only powering my Pentium build.

I wouldn't ever keep a PSU out of its warranty period in my main build anymore.

The Be Quiet! Dark Power 12 looks like a good unit on the face of it. I will probably look into it a bit in the event that i have to upgrade, but it looks to be a worthy successor to the HCP as antec (Delta really...) dont make them anymore. Quad rail is appealing to me, the HCP has a similar design. Probably not such an issue these days with multi gpu seeming to die out but still nice for redundancy.

I'm going through this process myself. Managed to bag a 3080Ti yesterday and have a Seasonic Prime Gold 650W. I was fretting about it not being enough, but according to the Outervision Extreme PSU calculator, (apparently the most accurate and used by Seasonic and many others) a 650W PSU is dead on for my build. I have a 9600K, 9 fans and 3 SSDs. I won't be overclocking. Max load of 594W apparently. I guess I'll find out! There are always articles and vids about people way overspeccing their PSUs. And tbh I'd probably go for an 850W if I could find the one I want.

Well I whish you all the best with that one, but I'd get searching for that quality 850w asa
p. Congrats on bagging a 3080ti

Listen out for the bang!

If I could find an 850W Seasonic Prime GX anywhere, I'd have it. Everywhere is out of stock. Having said that, someone on another thread said the Phanteks PSUs are rebranded Seasonics, which I didn't know. The Phanteks Revolt could be rebranded Seasonic Primes. If so, I'll get one of those.

I've picked up a Corsair RM750. Should do the job, lots of peoples' experiences with a 3080 and 750w are positive, and Nvidia recommend 750w in their user manual.
