Maxed out at 1440p in Cyberpunk 2077 my system gets a bit slow <30FPS, would a 4070 Super be a good upgrade or should I consider something else?

Ryzen 5 7600
3080 FE
Corsair Vengeance Black 32gb DDR5 5600MHz
Asus Tuf Gaming B650 Plus

Not overclocked, I guess that should be my first port of call.

The obvious cheap choice is reduce the settings. I think you’d struggle to tell the difference between most of the high settings.

A Ryzen 5 7600 is also a mid range CPU. A great one, but no escaping that it isn’t really a match for a 3080 FE in more difficult titles. Though it sounds like in this situation you’re mostly GPU limited.

Start with settings, and if you need to lower them to a point where visual quality evidently suffers, get a much stronger GPU rather than a lower tier but newer gen.

Thanks both. Will dial it back a bit and see how it goes.

What would be a good CPU match for the 3080 with my current hardware?

I completed Cyberpunk when it came out on a 3080 and that was on 3440x1440 UW. I had ray tracing on the 2nd highest setting (pre path tracing patch) and DLSS balanced. I was getting around 60 fps.

I don't know if the DLC update has made it more demanding in the main campaign.

I think there is mod for cyberpunk to add frame generation for 3000 series cards.

I've just gone from a 5600X to a 7800X3D and it didn't actually make much difference in Cyberpunk for me with a 4090. Probably as it's such a graphics hog.

Lots of other games saw much bigger gains though like Starfield , Elden Ring and especially Fallout London

The 3080 is still a high-end card, there's not really anything affordable and a big chunk faster to replace it with. TPU's spec page lists the 4070 Super as just 9% faster, though that is discounting "fake frames".

Do not get a 4070 super as an upgrade, it's barely any better, you'd need at least a 4070 ti super to really notice a difference, imo

I'm waiting on 2nd hand 4080 Supers when the next gen come out. I don't game as much as I used to and I've only got a 5800x3d to pair with it so that seems like a reasonable upgrade that shouldn't break the bank. Depends what people are willing to accept for their old cards I guess

Even a Ti SUPER is only about 30% faster - is that really worth it?

4080 SUPER or 4090 are the only really worthwhile upgrades tbh.

I certainly wouldn't bother going from a 3080 to a 4070 super. A friend was in a similar position (their 3080 had broke) and they wanted to replace the 3080 with something roughly equivalent (they didn't need more performance) - 4070 super was the closest thing really.
