32 bit os and ram

im just wondering but is it possible to have more than 2gb of ram in a 32 bit os, say maybe 3gb or would i have to get the 64 bit version of the os ?

you need 64 bit for 4 gig, 3 is fine on 32.

thank you for info, just ordered my self two packs of these , ill use all 4gb when xp64 can run battlefield 2142

No harm in just plugging it all in. xp 32 will just use as much as possible (anywhere from 3gig upto 3.5ish). then just upgrade to x64 as and when
