32 bit os ram issue

yep defo nothing you can do for that :/ im supprised they used a 32bit cpu in that laptop not exactly a notebook?? and correct me if im wrong, that laptop comes with either the T2700 cpu which is 32bit or the other option was the T7600 cpu which is 64bit so you dipped out on getting that model with the T2700. but intels numbering system confuses the hell out me lol so I may not be correct there but it makes sense, you got the lower spec out of the two.

You guys are absolute genius's.
Thanks a lot :D

Yeh i thought the same,
a
t7200 or
t7400 or
t7600
would work, making it 64bit.
but is it worth the extra money?
like £50 for a t7200 :/

Hi all :]
current set up -
windows xp 32 bit (i have a 32 bit cpu)
4 gig ram installed (2x2gb)
512mb gpu - Geforce Go 7900 GTX

This only shows 3 gig of visible, useable ram.

Question 1)
Is it worth upgrading to windows 7?

...

to answer your question, no it isn't worth the upgrade to windows 7 with that spec, and also a system with a 32 bit CPU dosn't really need over 2 GB of RAM anyway (some would argue you don't really need over 1 GB) :)

Question 2:
Nope you can't stop your graphics card from taking system ram. The graphics card will use its own on board memory to assemble the frame. The graphics card ram also has to fall into the addressable CPU range.

...so according to posts here windows XP 'does' let you use 4 GB? its just that 1 GB of that will be 'given' to the graphics card to use?

###crazy idea### so if i put an extra 2 GB in my system, will it 'add' 1 GB of that to my graphics memory making it 1.5 GB overall so i can run GTA4 at higher settings??? :D am i right?... i hope so!

Some systems will have a bios option that allow you to set how much RAM is allocated to the integrated graphics. Might be worth checking your bios for this but it's usually not enough to make any significant difference and wont really do much except make your graphics performance poorer.

No, the 1GB 'given' to other components is the reserved addressing space and not the physical memory.

but I had my sarcasm filter turned off when I replied to this so nevermind lol
