Might help a little if you give us an idea of what you'll be using it for. i.e. which out of the following: PC connection, Xbox 360, SDTV (Freeview, SKY), Sky HD, HD-DVD / Blu-Ray etc..

Out of those listed there, without a doubt the Sony 32V2000 is the best there. Superb SD picture with the built in freeview, 1:1 pixel mapping over VGA so perfect for PC use, and HD picture is top notch. So if you can afford it go for that one.

The Toshiba is not that great for PC use (no 1:1 mapping).

The Sammy is pretty good, cheaper than the Sony, but picture processing isn't quite as good. So if you have the money i'd say V2000 all the way. :D

thanks for the quick responce, it will have a normal sky digital box hooked upto it, my media centre pc and an xbox 360 when i get one.

i really like the sonys, my mate has one and they look awesome. the only thing i was thinking that was for the same price or slightly cheaper i could get a 37 inch from another brand. at the ne dof the day, what im after is the best possible pic quality and as many connections as poss.

also whats the cheapest price you guys have seen for the sony v2000?
cheers

Samsung LE32R72BX , I recently placed an order for one for £650 :D . It has HDMI, two scarts, component, the lot!

If you want more info e-mail me, address in trust.

just come across this as well, PANASONIC TX32LXD60, this seems to do 1080p.

does that make that set more future proof than the others or are we still saying the sony is the best one.

does anyone here have the panny??

Any set can 'do' 1080p it will just scale it down which is exactly what that panasonic will do as the native res is 1366x768.

1080p isn't worthwhilte on a set of that size anyway

I own a Toshiba Regza 32WLT66 and it works great with xbox360.
It can be bought for less than £680/ twin hdmi input/ built in freeview/its got it all for the price you pay !!
Always read up on reviews on the models you are intersted in.
If you want my advice .... buy one and enjoy ;)

and sorry if it makes buying a new telly a headache :D

Ok if you want to use a PC then it has to be the Sony. The Toshiba is a great TV, but weak when it comes to the PC input due to the lack of 1:1 pixel mapping.

You can get the 32" Sony for around £1050 I believe. John Lewis will price match too, so you can typically pick the TV up for around £1050 (i.e. an internet price), but with a 5 year warranty!

There's a thread on the avforums with pricematching info for JL.

If 1:1 pixel mapping so important for him i recommend he goes with the telly i have (LG 32LX2R). Easily the best PC quality i've seen on an LCD tv, and coupled with the multiple inputs (Component/HDMI/DVI/RGB Scart etc) it's easily worth the money.

See now this is confusing me, the Sony and Hyundai use the same panels, so the colours (black etc) will be of the same quality. The Hyundai does 1:1 pixel mapping and is under £600 saving a total of £400.

The tosh is no good for general PC use, however I still use mine for watching hdtv stuff from the PC, and it is possible. I use 1024x768 resolution, which means no vertical scaling on the TV's part. Then use the PC to stretch 16:9 vertically to fill 4:3 space, and then the button on the TV to stretch the 4:3 image back to 16:9.

Bit of a bodge but it works and still looks stunning, though I do have nothing to compare it to really

I have the 32LX2R too, and although it's great for PC use, the SD performance is pretty naff. I don't use it to watch TV so I manage ok.

I'm not sure about Hyundai, but I know that the new Samsungs use the same panel as the Sony. However there is a LOT more that determines the picture quality, namely picture processing and backlight. The Sony Bravia processing, and Sony backlight make a big difference, and the SD picture quality on the Sony beats the pants off the Samsung, and even more so the Hyundai.

If you have £1000 to spend, then the Sony will be strides ahead of the Hyundai, especially in SD. The adjustable backlight on the Sony makes it a lot easier to get deeper blacks. :)

Re: Panels. Yes, a lot of manufacturers use the same panels, but there's more to an LCD display than the panel (ie backlight and picture processing). Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sony are producing the blackest blacks right now...

Re: Sony S series and Sony V series - I get the impression the V series has better colour reproduction, namely greens and reds, than the S series, although I have also read (on AV forums) that this is not really justification for the extra money. The V series is the better without a doubt, but the price difference between the V and S seems a little high. They styling on the V series is nicer too.

I myself have ordered the KDL-32S2010 and am awaiting delivery...

:D

first of all may i say thnks to everyone thats contributed so far as things are making more sense.

@Jimbo Mahoney, very interestng as that was the other sony im looking at. i havent seen that particular model in action, i have seen the v2000 with an sd feed and it looked nice compared to some of the others they had in the shop.

best price for now is
KDL32V2000 = £989
KDL-32S2010 = £829

im really liking the idea of getting it from JL as the 5 year warrenty is a really nice guarentee to have thrown in for free, most other companies i have seen chage around £350+ for this type of warrenty!!

now does anyone know what the conditions of the JL price match are???

They won't match an online retailers prices.. and the cheapest I can the KDL-32V2000 for in a retail outlet is £1099 with free delivery.

Am I allowed to name the store?
Or give a clue to the name?
