I think the tube on my CRT might be on the way out. My parents suggested they would purchase us a new TV for around the aforementioned budget. What should I be looking at in this price range? I can't imagine I'd get anything larger for this price but I'm used to my 32" CRT so a 32" LCD should be sufficient.

What is it going to be used for?
SD mostly?
Movies?
Games?

As SD is significantly better on a Plasma than it is on a LCD, i own both (both sets £650+, 42") and the difference in black levels is huge

Mainly SD, but I will have my 360 hooked up to it, but I rarely game it's used more as a media player but it would be nice to be able to game often. It is mainly used for watching SD through virgin, movies via the xbox but to be able to watch some of my HD material would be great. Obviously I don't expect to get an amazing set, just a reasonable 720P set, really.

A plasma would be great, but I think that would be out of my range, surely.

thanks Chronic

I did look at that. Over Christmass everywhere seemed to be stocking it for ~£300. John Lewis, £299, though now however it appears to have gone up an awful lot to £450.

Thanks guys - will take a look at both suggestions :) Jonny, would it be this model? LE32A457C1DXXU

TBH you'd be an absolute madman not to go for a samsung 42" plasma for £480 ish rather than a 32" for marginally less.

The difference is night and day and you'd get used to the extra size within hours and wouldn't look back!
