I currently have an Sli set up with 2 7950gts and am looking to make a short upgrade with some cash that I have recently come into, im looking to spend no more than 320 pounds,

I run a 3.4ghz core 2 and a 680i motherboard and need a card to best run games at 1920x1200, the games I play are CSS, Test Drive Unlimited, Splinter Cell, Bf2142, Stalker and oblivion.

Im looking at two options to use for the next 3 months as a put on.

So which ever will give me best performance in these games at my resolution with as many bells and whistles, also resale value can be taken into consideration if its substantially different.

Im either looking at 1x 8800gtx or 2x 8800gts 320 - I will overclock, no doubt about it, which option to go for?

Someone posts that Nvidias new cards might be coming out in November then everyone gets all excited and jumps to the conclusion, that thats their release date.

The truth is no one actually knows when they are coming out.

Go for one GTX.

SLI is a waste of money. Not enough games take advantage of a SLI configuration. The performance you get out of SLI just dosent warrant the price you pay for that second card.

Once again, why dont people just stop saying that these new Nvidia cards are coming out in 3months time. They might, they might not. No one knows.

This is driving me nuts lol. :p :)

Definately the GTX, 320mb GTS SLi is a complete waste of time, as when Dx10 games start appearing with their bigger textures needing more VRam your going to be be memory limited as you'll only have 320mb still, so its no benefit at all. :)

Yeah some guy posted on a forum that the 9800's are out in November so everyones taking it as gospel. :D

I fail to see what you are trying to say.

He said he wanted a card for 3 months. I was wondering why someone would want to buy a new card and only use it for 3 months.

I see.

I thought since all this hype has been about Nvidias new cards coming out in november, by you saying where do people get all this money from, i just thought, well the GTX is the best card out (yes i know the Ultra is but no one in their right mind would upgrade from a GTX to an Ultra) and in 3months time when Nvidias new cards come out he would then upgrade to one of them.

If you see what i mean. :)

Well i read about that Dx10.1 and i seemed to be the only one that noticed that it said "hardware wont be out till the first half of 2008 to be able to run 10.1x". I did post it but it got ignored. Suggests they wont be out for a while. Which is a shame because i did want to get one in november :(

I wouldn't buy a GTX and then upgrade in 3 months. Even if a G98 did come out. I dont waste my money.

Im just sick of poor performance in games such as test drive unlimited, I want something to put me on, the cash ive come into is extra money I have as I have to stay at home for the next 4 months, so Im going to be spending more time on the computer and im going to be saving on travel expenses. So im treating myself

Well im currently using sli, I dont have many complaints, fair enough not all games support it, but the majority of games that I play do support it and the benefit in some case can be moving from 2x AA to 4xAA and remembering that I got my cards long before the 8800gtx came out I could get a very decent performance on my 24 incher. Unfortunately newer games seem to need the raw shader power of the 8800 series to run with bells and whistles at 1920x1200, hence the move

EDIT : I do have 512mb on each card tho, so the fact that its 512 isnt all too shabby
