3200+ Barton V's Pentium D 805

The Barton would be a fair bit quicker

You cannot directly compare clock speeds between Intel and AMD processors as the AMD XP has a far shorter pipeline than the Intel P4, meaning that it does more per clock cycle. This is the primary reasoning for the PR ratings

I'd spend £100 on an X2 3800+ if money is a concern as this will be quicker than both your AXP and the PD in both single and multi threaded apps

The pentium D 805 is a great chip...except for the fact that it drains 200+ watts when overclocked.

I'm not down with that kind of inefficiency.

I can confirm this. At 3.8GHz mine was drawing so much power that a transistor by the CPU burst into flames

I can confirm that the 805 draws a lot of juice.

I bought 4 of them to use for DC [Distributed Computing].
So far i have burned out 4 MB's and keep spare MB's in 'stock'.

Not quite the bargain they first appeared to be. :(

Lummy ! What speeds/voltages have you been typically running them at?

My mobo spontaniously combust at 1.5v/3.8GHz

They run at 100% 24/7

Not particularly high clock speeds around 3.3ghz.
If i run them higher than this then math errors could creap in and that wouldn't be good.

The voltage regulators on the MB's give up after a while but it's not surprising considering how much current they the CPU's draw.

Im sure for normal desktop use they would last for years.

Lol, mine lasted 10 minutes (literally) running Nero Recode :(

These are very bizarre reports about the 805.

Mine runs at 3.66Ghz 1.41 volts under full 100% load 24/7 - I have run it at 3.8 but backed off due to heat concerns.

But now Power Issues, not had a bust transistor or blown capacitor, or anything!

I wonder what dodgy motherboards you guys must be using....
