32bit XP to 64bit Winows 8?

Hello,
I've bought 3 copies of Windows 8 Pro, to get these I've used old 32 Windows XP disks (all legit). Here is what I've done:
1) Installed XP via VMWare
2) Downloaded the Advisor and paid for Win. 8 on the XP virtual Machine.
Cancelled the download (as I don't want the 32bit version)
3) Opened the e-mail on my legit Windows 8 machine
Downloaded the .iso (from the link in the e-mail).

Cheers

The above worked fine, and very easy to do.

This should work right?

- Purchased Windows 8 from my machine running Windows 7 x64.
- Created bootable USB stick through the Upgrade Assistant.
- Will use said stick to put Windows 8 x64 on my parents' computer. It is currently running XP x32, although I will also be buying them a SSD. I'm hoping to do a fresh install on the SSD without having to put XP on it first!

Thanks

I'd like to upgrade my 32 bit XP Pro to Windows 8 64 bit. Effectively doing a fresh install after validating XP as a qualifying OS, I think.

Before doing that, can I clone my XP installation onto another hard drive and use it in a dual boot with Windows 8 afterwards? What would happen?

yep.

For those of you struggling to get XP onto modern hardware just to validate your upgrade, here is the workaround:

Basically install to a blank hard drive using your upgrade product key, change one registry key and run one command, then it activates just fine.

For those of you who reinstall Windows regularly this should be a nice time saver.

Obviously I would not recommend you use this to get a discount on a brand new install since if you do that you're basically unlicensed and may as well have just pirated it.

I just upgraded to Windows 8 via Upgrade assistant, I was running 32bit XP but the upgrade advisor automatically installed 32bit windows 8-great, does not give you choice, god ol Microsoft.
Searched many forums and found solution to get windows8 64bit installed over the 32bit version.
After purchasing windows 8 online you will be sent a confirmation email .

ALL FOLLOWING MUST BE DONE ON ANY 64Bit PC, FRIENDS/FAMILY MEMBERS PC?
1. Open up this email that you recieved from Microsoft On the top under the "Thanks for your purchase/order" head- you will find the sentence "If you need to download Windows just enter your new Product key here."

2. Click on "here" and it will direct you to enter your Win 8 license key and you will receive a .exe file

3. Just start the downloaded .exe file and follow the instructions, it won't install anything on the PC you are doing this on. It will just download the Windows installation files (64-bit version in this case) and when it is finished it will prompt you to either install the freshly downloaded files right away OR make a bootable ISO or USB.

4. Choose to create an ISO or USB and create dvd or bootable usb, simply put your new Win 8 DVD or USB stick in the computer you want to install it on. I just left the 32bit version on and installed over it- now have 64bit installed (think you must choose the ‘do not save anything’ option to get a clean install, so backup any personal data beforehand).
Am also told you can even make a fresh installation on an empty drive?

^And it's legit if you still have a preview.
