I drive a very late 06 335i, it’s a fantastic car but just a little boring, I have had a few 335i’s in the past, my wife has a E93 335i and I have been itching for a change for ages.

So is there any point in selling my Auto 335i to get a manual 135i + Remap?

I tried to get a test drive of a 135i my local BMW dealer doe not have one. I would get around 15k for my car and a 08 135i will cost me 18 to 19k.

I drive a 2.0 TSI scirocco (not my car) when I am in prague and if I am honest its probably more fun and exiting then the 335i.

135 is still a poor cockpit (do they still use eastern European plastics?). Plus of course, it still looks horrific from outside.

Can you stretch to an earlier M3?

I can, the problem is I want to keep the running costs down and I want to save for a proper 911 so I just want a cheaper but fun run around until I can get what I really want in a year or 2.

I dont want another scirocco because I bought the other one, its front wheel drive and I would want something faster. I think its go-kart feel that I like which is why I thought a 135i may be the right car for me.

I have absolutely no idea how the OP finds a 335i 'boring', with the view that a 135i will not be boring.

Really?

You honestly fail to see why someone fails to get excited by a big, heavy, automatic 335i or why they might think a smaller, perhaps more nimble 135i Coupe manual might be more fun?

OP: FWIW, a friend of mine recently picked up a 135i and after his two previous cars being a 106 GTi and a 2005 Impreza STi PPP he claims it to be the most fun car he's had yet.

Lose some weight and adding a manual gearbox will be an increase in speed and handling, but really worth swapping for such a minor increase?

Calling the 335i 'boring' isn't then going to make a 135i seem omgwtf so much fun 335i is ghey.

I can understand why the OP might think the 135i is more exciting but it definitely isn't game changing in comparison to the 335i.

If he was changing to a Lotus Elise, then yes the 335i is boring :p

Going from just 'okay' interior quality to poor quality and cramped interior wouldn't really be my idea of an upgrade :p

135i = lighter car, smaller wheelbase, new n55 engine, M Sport interior is actually quite classy with aluminium detailing, better brakes. Performance is easily the same as my Lotus Elise SC in the 0-60 range. New engine is getting 25MPG zooming around uneconomically, and 45MPG on motorway.

335i = heavier car, larger wheelbase, same engine output, marginally more space in the cabin, slightly larger boot, worse brakes.

Just my biased input!

According to Parkers, the 135 is all of 85kg lighter than a 335i coupe, or about 6% lighter. Doesn't exactly strike me as a "night and day" difference.

He did say he was 135i biased :p

Having sat in both (front and back), the 3 series is more comfortable and roomy. Neither are as solid feeling inside as older BMWs though but everyone knew that anyway.

Horses for courses really.

My partner has a 1 series in Sport trim and it's a fun little go-kart for nipping about in. I wouldn't want to spend much time cruising long distances on the motorway in it but in the urban environment and twisty back roads it's more fun than my B5.

I test drove the new B5 incidentally on Saturday and was left distinctly underwhelmed. Twin Turbo is a real let down after Supercharger and whilst the new active suspension is well set up the rest of the car just left me feeling it wasn't the upgrade I had hoped for. It reminded me more of the feel of the old 7 series, i.e. more of a limo than a drivers car.

Bottom line if you like the 135i and can live with its limitations (size and space) I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.
