hi

well done on getting your new job.

i have recently got a new rig which is this and also a 2nd hand antec kuhler 620 watercooler for the cpu. my machine acts as a server for streaming to.

i want to start overclocking safely but am i little thick when it comes to it.

intel ivy 3570k processor
gigabyte Z77x Ud5H mobo
bios is F14
16 gig 2x8 gig kingston ddr3 hyper x 1600 mhz ram
120 gig agility 3 ssd
4 Sata 3 HDD - storage
AMD HD6850 GPU 1 gig xfx card
fractal design R3 case
blu ray drive
antec khuler 620 cpu cooler.

what settings can i safely set on that lot and is my case the best for OC'ing? i wanted it for the space and silence but my system is far from quiet. i am not sure whether to get full watercooled system or new gpu thats quiet.

Safe Voltages do depend on many variables. One important thing many point to is Temperatures. While these are important its easier to simply use the fact that as soon as the Vcore required to get a certain frequency stable goes out of linearity back off one level of overclock and thats your 24/7 number.

By this I mean say you need roughly 0.1 for every 100mhz gain and then suddenly it 0.5 then stay at the last setting you needed 0.1 for. Do observe temperatures too while briefly stress testing and make sure you remain under the Tj Max for that CPU. So around 90 on Ivy is tops to allow for warm weather etc. That I am guessing with your cooling will be around 1.30 - 1.35v.

Use a programe such as core temp or real temp to monitor core temps.

Other Voltages such as VTT keepunder 1.1 as your only using 1600mhz RAM you should not need more.

PLL no more than 1.9.

You should not really need to adjust any other voltages for clocking that system.

i have it up to 4.3 ghz and i touched the vcore up 2 pts. stable now. will leave as this for a few wks to see how it does. didn;t touch anything else. whats ppl?

i have 16 gig of ram to stick in the beast which i haven't done, does the ram o/c at all or leave it as stock?

core temps with core temp shows around 31c at this time, not under load. bouncing around 26-28 c

PLL Phase Lock Loop. Often these CPU like around 1.65v when clocking.

16gb of RAM does clock yes but its often harder to get stable due to stress on IMC. Do you need 16gb. If not ditch 8gb and clock it harder!!!

Temps look fine.

cheers.

i brought the 16 gig as it was a great deal on OC at the time a few wks back and i thought it would aid the transcoding of movies on the fly as my pc is also my server and media centre, although i experience stuttering problems streaming to my PS3 through my homeplug setup, may be the PS3 as it drops it connection to media centre all the time.

is o/c ing ram easy and worthwhile?

I would say it will be more hastle than its worth with the dimms you have.

8gb dimms can be hard to get to clock as they put a lot of stress on the IMC and are very high density. Alos the kit you have is a very stable kit but not exceptional clockers. Stick with XMP for stability.
