Hi guys.

I have taken a look at the anandtech benchmarks for 1055t vs 3570k.

Just wondering whether anyone else has done a similar upgrade from a Phenom II to an Ivy i5 and what real world gains you saw, in games.

If you were in my position, would you jump now or wait? I get pretty decent game performance from my 1055t and 7950, just feel that with a 3570k, games would really fly. Especially 2013 games, I'm looking at you.

I do play all types of games and it is quite varied, from rts / fps / mmo.

I also forgot to mention. Could someone spec me the cheapest motherboard to go with my i5. I'm not looking for any special features. I do not plan to crossfire. Just a board that would work with all my stuff.

Online games like mmos would probably be most improved. I made the jump from a 3.6Ghz 955 to a 4.6Ghz 3570k and games run as smooth as butter now. Some games like Sc2 show no difference, but games like Skyrim and large map/player count Bf3/Ps2 Gw2 will run very well on the new cpu.

Thanks for your response Hank. Given the decision again would you still make the jump now and what sort of difference is there in terms of fps?

Also if you purchased from OcUK, could you list the parts you bought whether a bundle?

2 days ago I went from:

960t @ 4.1
to
3570k @ 4.8

The difference is unreal :) I think my 3570k is kicking out about twice the processing power.

Borderlands 2 on my 960t couldn't even host a 4 player game without near on complete failure. My 3570k is smoth as butter.

Bf3 64 plyer close quaters on my 960t was horrible complete stutter fest processor was always above 90% usage. My 3570k smooth as butter.

Thanks imginy :) I am leaning more and more to an upgrade now vs waiting for Haswell as I originally planned. The itch to pull the trigger is getting bad :p

Did you purchase from OcUK imginy? If you did could you link what bundle or parts you bought?

I just been getting bits while the were on sale as I wasn't in a rush but this is what I got and what I paid for it.

i3 3570k £150
msi gd65 moherboard £120
phanteks tc14pe cooler £60
samsung green 8gb ram £37

I have been very pleased with all the bits.
The motherboard was very easy to overclock with :)
The processor has been great even at stock clocks :)
Phanteks cooler looks great and keep it all very cool :)
ram is running at 2133mhz 1.5v with very little effort :)

you would notice a nice improvement in gaming performance and that bundle above is a steal at that price if you bought all the parts from here to build it yourself it would cost you £50 more then buying the bundle:eek:

Edit: noticed you allready have 16gb of ram so if you just wanted to upgrade and keep the cost down you could get something like this
which would cost you just under £300 i've got the same bits bellow and running @4.7

I went from a 960t unlocked to six cores @ 3.4ghz to an i5 2500k only @ 4.2ghz (last feb) and the difference was massive in pretty much all games it just seemed to elimate the fps stutter that I had with the amd chip, this was in a lot of games tested. (bf3, skyrim, assasins creed, crysis 2). Would defo do the jump again. I have been very content since and havent had an upgrade itch with the cpu at all. I did upgrade the gpu to a gtx 670 in august though.

Hope that Helps.

Made the jump myself a few month back coming from a stock Phenom 956 to a 4.4 3570k (could get more out of it but don't see the point at the moment). As others have mentioned it was a big improvement on the likes of bf3, skyrim etc but what im impressed more with compared to the phenom is the temps. The phenom was idling at 34c and 56-60c at full load at 3.4 whilst the 3570k is idling at 16-21c and 48c full load at 4.4, damn impressive.

out of interest danny what is that cooler like ? i was looking for a cooler for my i5 one that is quiet :D

Great cooler mate especially for the price keeps temps mid seventies during intel burn running at 4.7 and its pretty quiet cant hear it over my gpu or case fans, you get a conector with it to run on low power /quiet mode but i never conected it.

Made this jump last night. Went from a 960T Hex at a meager 3.5ghz to the 3570K on stock performance.
Not played any real games yet but whether its placebo or not it feels a lot snappier to me

it is a lot snappier did similar myself in some games not so much difference in others like skyrim it can be double the fps and i have benched it not like some who say not much difference

also in arma 2 my fps is nearly double in that (for dayz)

Thanks for all the feedback. I guess the general consensus is that it's worth the upgrade.

My only concern, my current 16 GB ram is this:

I'm guessing I couldn't fit a decent aftermarket cooler as it will be blocked. Could I just drop two sticks so that I'm using 8GB, even though it's quite tall ram would I still be good using the same stuff without any issues or would I need to buy something smaller?
