Hi all, so recently I upgraded from the spec in my signature to an i5 3570k and MSI Z77 mpower motherboard. Now as you do I have been running some benchmarks and there is no improvement in FPS I am actually getting a worse FPS now with Unigine Valley being an exception. I have been testing on Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs , Unigine Valley & Unigine Heaven.

Also just to make sure I ran cinenech 11.5 and got 6.01 and 5.99 whereas in reviews I have seen around 6.32

So I'm not sure what's going on but performance just isn't right, I know I shouldn't be expecting massive gains but I know a small performance bump should definitely be noticeable in benchmarks.

P.s I did not reinstall windows I wonder if this has any affect on the performance?

You shouldn't be seeing any difference as far as games are concerned, you are completely GPU bottlenecked.

Only FPS changes or Heaven changes etc should be margin of error.

Right thanks for clearing that guys up..so I guess the next step is a GPU upgrade :p I've been toying with the idea of another 7870 since they can be had for peanuts in used condition but I know a single card would be the better option in terms of heat and power

You mean 6870?
I wouldn't get a 6870 Crossfire in this day and age, I mean I ran one at launch, and it was very good, but you'd be far better off with a single GPU config like a R9 280/280X etc.

Op has a VTX3D 7870 Black GPU.

Buy a new 200 series, OC the CPU and see FPS gains your AMD CPU would never hit IMO.

Yeah I understand that with a better GPU I will see some gains! Especially with an OC..any idea what I will be able to achieve with a CM Hyper 212 Evo, or don't tell me I need a new cooler as well :p

Yep I have 7870 black edition, 6870 is the card I had before that ;) I've had a look at some crossfire benches and they are quite impressive definitely good bang for buck performance. Cooling and temperatures are a different matter though these cards run hot 80C at load so I have a custom fan profile which manages 70C at the cost of noise..

How will the R9 280X fair?

No clue not used but its not high end cooling, may be better with an AIO water unit though not my cup of tea.

Not mine either, I would rather go with a decent air cooler.

7870 Crossfire then yeah should be pretty good.
Would have expected some gains then tbh from the 1090T.

True the 1090t is/was a beast and will be for years to come, I might keep it instead of selling could come in handy for another system :p

AC = 140mm Noctua models /Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom/Phantek models but need to make sure you have Top GPU slot and Ram Slot clearance on your Mobo.

Cheers yeah I'm aware of those already I like the look of the Phanteks TC14PE but too big and expensive for my liking (won't fit in case anyway). I had my eye on an silver arrow sb-se se but it was only available at a competitor and they don't stock it either anymore :(

So that leaves us with some ugly ass coolers :D I'll have to sacrifice looks for performance
