360 - 3 Red lights :(

Mine died the other day by Bad Company as well, it loaded up the start screen and then just beeped and froze. Restarted it and hey presto 3 red lights. UPS picked it up this morning so hopefully shouldn't be too long. Typical as well, my birthday weekend and was going to get some solid game time in as i'm off work for 2 days as well, now i've got nothing. :(

My 18 month-old premium died on Monday, which I need to get repaired. I have thought sod it and tonight bought an Elite, so can sell the repaired one on. Bit drastic I know, but I do like having the massive HD, HDMI and it's slightly quieter as well.

just got mine back from repair today motherboard and dvd drive (was a Hitachi now a BenQ) replaced seems slightly quieter

would stilll have liked a more solid console but cant fault the replacement procedure (not unless it faills again anyway) as the components repair and delivery must have cost a bit

how do you tell if its one these new falcon majobbys???
cos i bought a 360 elite around 3 months ago and it seems to be working fine, but my brothers elite which was bought 7 months ago has died, not rrod but all the colours broken and everything being purple etc. dont want it to happen to mine :p

I imagine this has been discussed many times, but I still remember when my launch PS2 started to die in 2000. Phoned Sony up, driver comes around picks-up old PS2 and gives me a brand new one. Simple, no labels to pick, boxed to pack up, and time to wait for a 'refurbished' or replacement machine to come back.

I thought this was still how it worked for the PS3. So no, could be a lot smoother replacement programme from MS.

It must be cheaper than a whole new console maybe they salvage stuff of the broken mobo the only old bit of my console i still have is the case and psu i think

but did sony do it when your years guarentee was up ?

Oh it'll be a cost issue, and that's why MS will have employed the strategy of trying to repair consoles. However I was responding to the point that the replacement process couldn't be faulted. It can and it will continue to be for many days. Of all my consoles I've had a faulty PS2, CD32 (don'y laugh ;-/ ), DS Lite and now this Xbox 360. The warranty experience will be the most painful on the Xbox I suspect.

Although difficult to benchmark I imagine even Sony's PS2 didn't have failure rates the Xbox 360 has had, and hence the extra 2 year warranty MS applied for the RROD is a moot point.
