Hi all,

i'm almost ready to pull the trigger on a core system with an extra VGA cable and a memory card. I've checked the FAQ and there's something I'm not too sure about:

1) I was planning on using either my 17" 1280x1024 or 21" widescreen TFT (1680 x 1050) monitors - does the VGA cable have an audio output so I plug my headphones into it or not?

If so - how will I be able to control the volume in my headphones? Would you guys reckon this setup will be any good whilst I wait the long months until I can afford a massive HD telly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Joe.

I think the VGA cable has audio channels (L & R) which u put into the input on ya sound card. Then just use headphones.

Have a look at the above picture, that's basically what you'll need to do to get sound working through your headphones, but you wont really have any volume control other than in game volume settings.

I'd personally prefer a widescreen monitor over a 4:3 for playing the 360 on, but you'd need to make sure the resolution is supported and wont look rubbish on a non-native resolution on your monitor. The highest widescreen resolution the 360 will output is 1360x768.

mmm. Thanks for your post DaveyD. My widescreen monitor does scale okay, but it's not as pin sharp as I'd like. So if I don't want to scale, I'm back on the 17" monitor.

I'm just reconsidering this now as I'd be stuck at 1280x1024 on the 17 incher - and I've read a few more reviews that say the 360 on 4:3 is pants.

I've got a reasonable widescreen CRT telly, but the missus is usually watching rubbish on that and will no doubt complain if I take it over with Lara Croft's cleavage.

There are some issues with using 1280x1024, as it's not a 4:3 resolution, you're going to have black bars giving you a smaller widescreen view. Also some games have a couple of 'issues' meaning you need to run in a different resolution to get them looking right, meaning non-native resolutions for most TFT users.
