Went to have a quick blast online, and noticed that Live wouldnt sign on unless I did the update (no doubt fot the Sky stuff,), but why is it ya HAVE to do it right there and then, ****** annoying.

Plus I have no desire for any of the new stuff!

It's common sense that everyone playing online has to be running the same version of the OS/firmware. If they didn't match it could cause all sorts of problems.

Thought of that, but for the life of me I cant see the technical connection between all teh junk they are adding on, to all the Firmware stuff.

Cant see how they would even let to two come close to each other TBH.

Should say im between ISP's right now...so got bugger all connection...as in...switch on...walk off and do somthing else other than play online cause its doing teh update!...good timing huh.

If your updates are taking that long I doubt you will have a very good multiplayer experience.

Update take sub 2-3 seconds at the most.

actually, todays update was for wpa2 support. also sky isnt implemented using an update it just a;ppears as a downloadable extra, much like i pod support

OP - Took me like 30 seconds to download the update, if its taking you that long to download a small update you need to do something bout your internet....

All consoles need to have the same firmware and updates when playing online, all sorts of problems would arise if we were all on different versions...

Umm what cant you understand, i didnt want to do an update just then and start playing online and do it another time, but cant do this, I found it a pain in the ass, sorry if this offends your delicate senses and you loose sleep over it.

I doubt very much that I suddenly would mess up online playing from missing this update, and, tesed my connection, was running over a meg, so no idea why the download wwas so slow unless it was being hit badly at tea time/

You realise that the whole of Xbox Live would grind to a halt at every mealtime if this were true?

Admit it, you were whining pointlessly about something you don't quite understand the purpose of :p

As it's already been said a few times, I'll say it again. :D

When playing on Live, all Xbox's, regardless of country, need to be running the same firmware. Apart from the fact that it allows MS to keep easier tabs on us, it would be a complete nightmare for MS to handle different Firmwares on the same firmware.

I would imagine this would lead to firmware exploits and hacks. Which MS are totally against.

The newest update to the xbox/dashboard is mainly hardware related (plus to add support for use of facebook, twitter, sky player etc); there is also an update for the Wireless Adaptor for the 360.

Woot! Someone who complains about more stupid things than I do!

Cu3ed, stand in a field and wait for someone to come talk to you, will teach you patience :)

Paragraph 1 - You found it a pain to do a small update? welcome to the world of Microsoft... If you really want to see a large update try having a look at some of the games on the PC, I recently looked into getting back on WoW only when I saw I would need to download about 3gig of updates was I put off....

At least they bring out these updates, new features being added all the time, maybe you don't need all these features but I for one like the fact that they keep giving me new stuff.

Paragraph 2 - Maybe you would not mess up the whole of on-line gaming for everyone by not having this update, but its the way Microsoft works, All consoles need to be running the same firmware and have all the same updates. If you don't want to install updates don't play on-line...
